Agassi has been in imperious form in 2003, winning tournaments in San Jose and Miami and powering to his eighth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

The 33-year-old underwent intense fitness work with trainer Gil Reyes during the close season and has returned looking stronger and hungrier than ever.

He has an impressive record at the French Open, having reached three finals at Roland Garros, winning the title in 1999.

That triumph - claimed when he fought back from two sets down against Andrei Medvedev to win the final - made Agassi the first man since Rod Laver to win all four Grand Slams.

The victory was all the more remarkable considering that the Las Vegan had slumped to 141 in the world rankings just two years before.
