Kim O'Hara
Sweet and endearing, Kim Monroe is best described as adorkable.
Kim has lots of nervous energy. In her mid-twenties, she’s smiley, ditzy and loveable. But her cute smile and klutzy manner hide big trust issues and very low self-esteem. Putting up a front is her way of protecting herself.
Shieldinch was a fresh start for Kim, she fled there looking for an escape from her abusive husband, Simon. She met Bob O’Hara and the pair instantly hit it off. But it wasn’t long till Kim’s past caught up with her and Simon arrived to claim what was his. Kim was too scared to resist but Bob came to her rescue and helped her to escape her bully. The pair soon got their happily ever after with the news that Kim had fallen pregnant with Bob’s child.
Baby Mackenzie was born and Kim was happy with his little family, including Angus, until the unwelcome return of Bob’s real mother Theresa. She begged Bob for a second chance and a dubious Bob eventually welcomed her into the fold. But nurse Kim quickly sussed that something was wrong with Molly and was the first to discover Theresa’s evil secret – she had been poisoning Molly to keep her docile. When moral Kim went to tell the police, Theresa silenced her by pushing her in front of a car. Whilst Kim survived the accident, it wasn’t over yet as realising her mistake and fearing she’d lose her grandson, Theresa stole Mackenzie. Whilst Mackenzie was safely returned home, the ordeal brought out a new side to Kim – no one should mess with his Mama bear when it comes to her kids.
With the death of Theresa, Bob chose to use his inheritance money to give Kim the wedding of her dreams. Kim was delighted, even more so when Bob offered to organise everything. The wedding day came and as they stood at the altar, Bob confessed to having kissed Nicole Brodie. Kim was devastated. Worse still, she learnt Bob had been blackmailed out of all of the inheritance cash. So close to a happy ending, Kim refused to let this keep Bob and her apart and, agreeing to put it behind them, they got married.
With the future looking up, Kim decided it was time to reconnect with her mother Isobel, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. But visiting Isobel was hard for Kim as her mother was often unable to remember her. Kim was prepared to stand by her mother regardless of the strain, and with Bob’s agreement, she chose to take her mum out of the care home and move her in with them. Sadly, Isobel passed away and Kim was left to deal with this herself following Bob’s affair with Nicole.
Kim served Bob with divorce papers and is determined to take charge of her own destiny.
