Sonny Caplan

Full of the typical Lindsay charm and wit, Sonny is the father of Lou and Logan and uncle of Angus. He arrived in Shieldinch to visit his children for Christmas then decided to stick around to spend more time with his family.

A widower in his early 60s, Sonny has the gift of the gab and has no problem charming the ladies. In fact, sometimes his patter works too well, and he has been known to find himself juggling more than one woman. He’s also prone to using questionable techniques to meet the objects of his affection, even if that involves pretending to be an alcoholic at AA meetings! However, despite being a bit of a chancer at times, his heart is in the right place.

Logan was always Sonny’s golden boy, but his relationship with Lou is more strained due to his lack of understanding around her sexuality. However, he’s determined to put things right with her now that he lives in the area.

Sonny worked in the steel industry for years, yet recently found himself struggling to navigate the modern-day jobs market after being made redundant. A task made more challenging by his most shameful secret – he can’t read or write. However, after overcoming his pride and accepting his family’s help, he decided to play to his strengths and set himself up as the local handyman. Picking up some extra work at Amber Cabs as a driver and on the phones, he has a renewed lease for life and the future is looking bright for Sonny Caplan…
