Lou Caplan

Always up for a laugh provided it’s on the right side of the law, Lou is the older cousin of Angus, sister of Logan and daughter of Sonny. Originally an undercover sergeant, she moved to Shieldinch after taking a voluntary demotion to give herself a better work/life balance. Yet when DCI Grant was shot, Lou was forced to admit there was more to her career change than she first let on and she was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD. Having sought treatment, Lou seems to be over the worst, yet her reluctance to discuss her previous career suggests there might be a few skeletons left in her closet.

Full of fun and always on the wind up, Lou loves playing on the fact she is a police officer to make people feel nervous. However, she’s also got a compassionate side, as evidenced by her recent attempts to save Amber from the criminal underworld and help her kick her heroin addiction.

Lou has a strained relationship with her dad, Sonny, due to his lack of understanding of her sexuality. However, since Sonny’s arrival in Shieldinch, their relationship is beginning to look up.

When Lou discovered the truth about who shot Lydia, she planted evidence on Lenny and then had to explain herself to Amber. Amber took Charlotte to Brighton after confronting Lenny and left Lou heartbroken. But Lou’s relationship with the Murdochs proved useful to her boss, DCI Grant, who forced Lou into a dodgy undercover operation in an attempt to bring Lenny’s gangster reign to an end. Ultimately, Lou sacrificed her boss, recognising that this mission wasn’t about justice but was a personal vendetta.

Now that Lou is back on the force proper, will she finally get the promotion denied to her by DCI Grant?
