Amandeep 'AJ' Jandhu

Born in Shieldinch, AJ moved back home with his wife, Annie, packing in his successful career as a London banker to follow a new dream of making pies. He leased the Oyster Cafe from Alex Murdoch and began focusing on rebuilding his family. But Shieldinch did not hold the salvation AJ had hoped for. After a turbulent divorce from Annie, as a result of her affair with Alex Murdoch, AJ was left single with only his best friend Pete to keep him company.

What started as a solid friendship with Ellie McLean, blossomed into AJ wanting something more. Unfortunately by that point, AJ was already engaged to another woman – Farrah – but on seeing Ellie at her lowest ebb, he realised where his heart truly lay. He called off the wedding, waved goodbye to Farrah and Ellie and AJ finally got together.

AJ’s life seemed to be going from strength to strength, he’d found romantic happiness and was elected the local councillor for Shieldinch, until ex-wife Annie was reported dead. Kind hearted AJ took in Annie’s nieces Frankie and Katie, creating a new and unconventional miniature family and in turn, arousing Ellie’s desires to have children of her own.

AJ and Ellie have struggled to create a family of their own but, with young Katie around, the pair have put their own plans to have kids on the backburner. AJ is Ellie’s rock and a friendly member of the community, with so many Shieldinchers going to AJ for advice.
