| Tuesday, 10 September, 2002, 12:59 GMT 13:59 UK Wrexham 2-1 Bradford Late goals from Andy Morrell and Carlos Edwards gave Division Three side Wrexham a memorable Worthington Cup first round victory over Bradford at the Racecourse Ground. The home side asked all the early questions and wasted three clear chances in the first half. Paul Edwards was looking dangerous down the left wing and his crossing nearly set up Hector Sam twice, before Dan Bennett's header forced Bradford keeper Aidan Davison into a one-handed save. The Dragons should have scored after 21 minutes when Morrell's cut-back was met by Jim Whitley, but his shot was weak and easily gathered by Davison. However, Bradford showed their Division One credentials in the second half and began to boss the game, although Wrexham still had chances to score. Suspicious Again it was Davison who came to Bradford's rescue, making a brilliant save to deny Morrell after 77 minutes. When former Everton striker Danny Cadamarteri pounced seven minutes from time to give Bradford the lead, it looked as though Wrexham's profligacy in front of goal would cost them dear. Ashley Ward's header had been cleared by Wrexham substitute Shaun Holmes, from the resulting corner Ward, who looked suspiciously offside, set up Cadamarteri to fire the ball home. But with a minute to go, Morrell delighted the Racecourse faithful by slotting home from close range after Holmes had worked himslef space to send across a pin-point cross. The with seconds left Morrell turned provider to set up Edwards for a stoppage-time winner that stunned Bradford. Wrexham: Dibble, Pejic, Roberts, Bennett, Carlos Edwards, Whitley, Barrett, Ferguson, Paul Edwards, Sam, Morrell. Subs: Holmes, Lawrence, Trundle, Whitfield, Mark Jones.
