| Tuesday, 10 September, 2002, 21:31 GMT 22:31 UK Bristol C 0-1 Oxford Oxford survived the late dismissal of striker Andy Scott to record a surprise Worthington Cup victory away to Bristol City. James Hunt's fine individual goal after 17 minutes was enough to sink a City side who had won all their previous games at Ashton Gate this season. Oxford manager Ian Atkins was ordered from the dug-out by referee Trevor Parkes for disputing Scott's red card in the closing stages but ended up a happy man as a glaring miss by City substitute Lee Matthews after 79 minutes left the hosts to lick their wounds. For all their territorial dominance, City failed to carve out many chances and the Division Three side deserved their triumph. Bristol City: Phillips, Burnell, Butler, Hill, Murray, Hulbert, Doherty, Tinnion, Woodman, Roberts, Peacock. Subs: Beadle, Matthews, Clist, Fortune, Myhill. Oxford Utd: Woodman, Viveash, Crosby, Bound, McNiven, Hunt, Savage, Ford, Robinson, Oldfield, Scott. Subs: Powell, Whitehead, Ricketts, Omoyimni, Louis. Referee: T Parkes (W Midlands) |
