| Tuesday, 10 September, 2002, 21:41 GMT 22:41 UK Crystal Palace 2-1 Plymouth (after extra time) Striker Andy Johnson sent Crystal Palace into the second round of the Worthington Cup with an extra-time goal against plucky Plymouth at Selhurst Park. The home side took the lead after 22 minutes following Danny Granville's inswinging free-kick being headed towards goal by Dele Adebola. Goalkeeper Romain Larrieu parried the ball and Darren Powell nodded home the rebound. But the Division Two side were level six minutes before the break as manager Paul Sturrock's son Blair turned home an Osvaldo Lopes cross. Neither side could find a winner in the second half and penalties looked on the cards until Johnson converted a Granville centre seven minutes from the end of the extra half-hour. Crystal Palace: Kolinko, Fleming, Austin, Powell, Granville, Johnson, Thomson, Mullins, Routledge, Freedman, Adebola. Subs: Cronin, Butterfield, Black, Rubins, Frampton. Plymouth: Larrieu, Worrell, Coughlan, Wotton, Aljofree, Sturrock, Hodges, Adams, Phillips, Lowndes, Lopes. Subs: Friio, Beresford, Evans, Stonebridge, McCormick. Referee: C Penton (Sussex) |
