| Tuesday, 10 September, 2002, 22:22 GMT 23:22 UK Rushden stun Millwall (Rushden win 5-3 on penalties AET) Rushden gained a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over First Division Millwall after a goalless 90 minutes to progress into the second round of the Worthington Cup. Rushden were not overawed by their opponents and they took the game to Millwall throughout. Playing some fine football, Rushden could have won the game in normal time when in the 63rd minute Duane Darby hit the post from an acute angle. When the match went into extra time Millwall could have easily won the game and only the brilliance of Billy Turley kept the visitors at bay. The Rushden keeper also saved Millwall's first penalty and then he followed up to score a penalty of his own as his side won 5-3 in the shoot-out. Rushden & Diamonds: Turley, Mustafa, Dempster, Peters, Underwood, Hall, Mills, Wardley, Gray, Partridge, Darby. Subs: Tillson, Burgess, Sollitt, Bell, Talbot. Millwall: Warner, Phillips, Nethercott, Ward, Lawrence, Roberts, Livermore, Ryan, Ifill, May, Kinet. Subs: Gueret, Bull, Hearn, Robinson, Claridge. Referee: J P Robinson (E Yorkshire) |
