Better late than never

Hello Jihad!

Your poor sister, what a terrible experience! How awful to lose five hours of work. I hope your internet connection is sorted out now. I agree that technology introduces lots of new problems, but I have to admit that I do like how easy it makes finding information and communicating with people…

I am a bit late with this post because it was my birthday on Wednesday and I have had a brilliant week of birthday celebrations! But better late than never...

On Wednesday, I recorded a few bits of video and have put them together here:

My birthday

The sequence of events on the video is: breakfast in bed and open presents from Rian and Clara; get up and make coffee; check email; leave home on my bike; cycle to work; arrive at York St John; in the evening, go to York Theatre Royal (where my sister works) to see a ballet (only a few seconds of waiting for the performance to start is recorded here. I wasn’t allowed to record the actual performance, unfortunately, but there are some pictures here; (the next day) go out for dinner with colleagues and students to a Chinese restaurant in York.

Here are some pictures from the video:

In my last post I talked about prepositions; here are my answers to the prepositions challenge:

I have never been good at cleaning my room and making it tidy and it was hard at first to do that in the pharmacy. Over time, the whole task has become easier.

During this time, I have to deal with the new drugs coming to the pharmacy. I arrange them in categories; write down their expiry date in the records, put the price labels on, then put them on the shelves.

I noticed that you use a proverb to describe what technology is NOT: A friend in need is a friend indeed. Just in case you are interested in proverbs, I have found a couple of BBC LE pages that have useful examples and explanations of some others:

Money and work proverbs

Weather proverbs

If it's true that early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise then tomorrow (today) is NOT going to be a good day!!

See you again soon!

Rachel

Marianna (from Slovakia) and Hyoshil (from the UK) - you got most of the answers right, well done! A (virtual) BBC LE t-shirt for both of you!

Hi Richel, I hope you're doing well. I am glad to hear that you had enjoyed your birthday however, I wish I knew it before. I also hope that you don't mind accepting my belated happy birthday to you! Today, I've got a question for you, and hope you don't mind it. My question is, is it all right to write the proper noun (I) in a middle of a sentence, I already know if it starts a new sentence like any other word, phrase, pronoun etc. I wish you a great weeend, Abdisamad

Happy Birthday Rachel! It´s nice to see you back :-). I loved to see your desk ´cause it´s pretty much like mine. I hope you´ve enjoyed your night in the royal ballet. Good night, Ana Paula.

Hello Rachel, belated Happy birthday to you! Hope you had a ball on your birthday and thank you for sharing the video with us all. It's been a good time with you again as a teacher blogger. Best wishes, Naheed

Thank you Rachel and hapy birthday. No surprise you did not mention the number of the birthday all women do not like to do it gratuitously.

Hi! Happy birhday, Rachel! Í've been watching the video and it's very, very nice; I think that you are very lucky because you can go on your bike to your work while you pass through that beautiful landscape. By the way, your students seem to be very nice and your collegues too, of course. Anyway, could you tell me where i have to put my tongue when I pronounce "hut" "money"... /^/ Thanks a lot.

Happy belated Birthday Raquel! From your nice video it seems that you spent a good time. It's very healthy to go to work on bike. I mean cycling is very good for our bood system. I used to do it when I lived in a quieter neighbourhood. Now, the way to my office could be a bit dangerous because there are a lot of traffic and no special paths for cyclists. See you, Cris

Happy birthday Rachel! May all your birthday wishes come true. Thank you for the video; I like the flowers which are hanging in front of your desk.

Dear Rachel Happy Birth day this is frank

Hi Rachel Happy birth day, you seem to have enjoyed your birth day as it appears from your dinner in Chinese Resturant. Most importantly I would like to say that I really enjoyed reading the proverbs. I hope I remember them in the future to use them in every day life. At least reading about different proverbs here will help understand them when I hear them. I would like to use these proverbs in sentences but at the moment I am a little tired to think so hopefully tomarrow I will use them in sentences. Take care Rabail UK

Hi Rachel! Good news you´ve had a birthday not a flu. Fabulous not to wait a year and to celebrate it like that, even the description sounds perfect(unfortunately wideos are not accesible fof me to look them now). In between, my friend wrote from Prague book trade fair about another celebration which was performed directly on the river surface she looked at from the Karl´s bridge. Her last remark was that Prague was still a beautiful place but not more the one from our youth it had changed a lot especially the people and not always it was being a good change. I believe you don´t have a tiny reason to become as nostalgic as we in your age. Thousads happy birthdays!

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
