First things First

Well, first let me say hello to all of you out there and a big thank you to those on the BBC Learning English Team for giving me this great opportunity to take part in this very exciting project!
It’s strange for me to think that I’m actually doing this type of internet based activity. I was recently told that I’m a “digital immigrant” at a conference on ELT and Technology (ELT is an acronym for English Language Teaching). Apparently, this is a term to describe those of us who grew up without using technology but started using it later in life. And you know, it really doesn’t seem so long ago when my then girlfriend laughed at me because I thought I could only access my personal email account from my computer at work because I had opened the account on that computer!!! Actually, that was 11 years ago, during my second year in Turkey and my then girlfriend, Mehpare, is now my wife (and yes, she still laughs at me…).
Well, anyway, here I am, Teacher Blogger (what a weird and wonderful title!) for the BBC, my Mum will be proud!! (by the way, do you know what that is an acronym for???)
Well I’m going to keep this short and sweet as I’m quite tired from partying all day yesterday with my beautiful daughter Nehir Irene (Nehir means River in Turkish and Irene means peace in Greek). It was her birthday yesterday! She’s 2 years old now. Time really flies doesn’t it! It seems like only yesterday that she was born.
Before you go though, how about tackling a few questions that I’ve set below. Come on, you’re here to learn aren’t you? So get your thinking caps on and take up the challenge.
I’m addressing all of you who are reading this, not just Marvin who, I’m told, will be the Student Blogger this month. One of the best ways to improve your language skills is to study how native speakers use the language for yourself. So what are you waiting for? Study how I have used my English here to express myself!

By the way, Marvin, I’m really looking forward to our correspondence!

Gule gule! As they say in Turkey (it means “go laughing!”)

The Challenge

1. Comprehension

What do you think you know about me now? Write down 3 things that you definitely know about me and 3 things that you can guess. Give your reasons for these guesses!

2. Guessing from context– find these words in the blog and try to guess the meaning

What is an acronym? Give an example of an acronym you know.

my then girlfriend - What does then mean in this context?

3. Developing lexis(words and phrases)

Find three phrases that mean "Time has passed but I didn’t notice!"

Good Luck!

Firstly,i know you are a man and you have been got married and you have a beautiful and lovely daughter through the context,i guess your favorite hobby is travelling and you are so kind person, the reason is your daughter'name and you will share the method to halp us to improve our English skills!! secondly, an acronym is that all the initial letter is linking of several words title(FOB means free on board). Then means that time!! thirdly,It was her birthday yesterday! She’s 2 years old now. It seems like only yesterday that she was born. this is my comments i so happy to meet you!!say it again!! Dino

Hello Simon I wish you a wonderful time while being our teacher blogger. I'm going to give a try to the task you send us. 1.- What I know about you is that you have been living in Turkey for about 12 years and that you are married and have a beautiful daughter. Congratulations. I guess that you are not very confident with new technologies, althoug I know you will. I suppose that your wife is Turkish and finally I think you're an English as a foreign language teacher. 2.- An acronym is a word formed from the first letters of other words and these words have its own meaning, i.e. BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). Your then girlfriend is not your girlfriend anymore. 3.- Time flies. It seems like yesterday. Good things never last. And that's all. See you soon.

Hi Simon and a warm welcome to the blogs. I already loved your first energetic blog, I will see how the rest will be!!. Well, before answering your questions I want to comment on your writing. You said that Nehir means river in Turkish and to my surprise it's the same word in Arabic too, it's naher which means the river too. Somthing else I may want to suggest you that you write more about Turkey because I think it's quite an exciting country with many nice places to visit. Now back on track. Let's see if i can answer some of your questions: 1)You have been living in Turkey for 13 years now, your girlfriend is your wife now, and you have one daughter who's name is Nehir Irene. What I can guess about you is that you may be an English teacher in Turkey as you currently attended a conference on ELT. 2) an acronym is an abbreviation, ex: IELTS. -then means that she was only a simple friend and then became a girlfriend!!! hahaha. 3)Time really flies. It seems like yesterday...it really doesn’t seem so long ago. These are my answers, I hope I've done well. Bïa

Hello Simon! You’re welcome. I anticipate fruitful hours with your blog. As for challenge, it’s interesting to find answers and ways to express thoughts. Task number one: I recon you’re well educated man in your early thirties. Because you have only one toddler and you’re working for BBC. Not everyone is able to get job in such demanding and famous corporation. Apart from that I think you have a very yang looking appearance that’s why your face unshaved to assert authority. At the same time I know nothing about your roots, hobby and way of life. I guess you don’t smoke and do morning exercises at least every other day or more often. Number two: Acronym means word or phrase, which is not ubiquitous and may seem ridiculous. It seems to me phrase “you’re pulling my leg” is already acronym. I think “my then GF” means my GF in that time I’m talking about. And finally task number three: Hours had gone so fast because we were in charge with one of the most challenging projects. We had no idea about time, we were hiking and talking all the day. TV is the greatest time killer, it’s so easy to waist a few hours switching channels. That’s all for now, I’d be glad to see you again.

Welcome Simon. You put homework in your first blog! Well,I write my answers: Sure: you are living in Turkey since about 13 years now. You are married and you have a 2 year old daughter. You did not use computers from the begining of your studies or work. You (as me) started later to use this challenging technology. Guesses: Your wife is Turkish. Your Mum is alive. Acronym- a shor form for a various word name of institution, country etc. made with the first letter of each word. Example, USA, United States of America. Your then girlfriend, means that she was your girlfriend in that moment, 11 years ago. Hope to read you tomorrow.

Welcome Simon, you seem to be a very demanding teacher, don't you? However I won't demoralize,I'll take up your challenge but I hope you'll turn a blind eye to mistakes or nonsenses I'll make (laughs are allowed). Well, here you are my homework: 1. Information about you: a) You are married; b)you have a two year old daughter called Nehir Irene; you are a teacher. Guesses: a) You have been living in Turkey for 12 years (because of you mentioned...11 years ago, during my second year in Turkey...);b) your wife is Turkish (because of her name Mehpare); c) you are a cheerful and self-ironical person (because of your writing style). 2.Meaning of: THEN = at that time; ACRONYM = word where each letter of spelling is the first one of another word, ex. BBC = British Broadcasting Corporation; NHS = National Health Service; USA = United States (of) America. 3. Time flies; time is getting on;......... see you soon

Hello Simon, I like your challenge. It makes me thinking of in English.Well, you are an English teacher who's married to a Turkish woman.I guess, you can speak some Turkish language(Gule, gule LOL)In my native language we've got a lot of Turkish borrowings.Acronyms are abbreviations, such as, CIA,SARS,NASA,PCMCIA... I am really looking forward to read your blog this month. Bye

Hi Simon!, glad to meet you, and welcome, Don't worry about your computers abilities, I often have similar situation when I work with younger colleagues. respect to my homework: You are a teacher in BBC team. You are married, You have a lovely daughter. I guess your wife is fron Turkish, your daughter has born in Turkish, too, you are a humble guy. Example of acronym is BBC, CNN as well, and EU, USA. My then girl friend means when some time ago your present wife was your girlfriend. with this phrase I get " Long time has passed, but I didn't aware. I wait your next blog, best wishes

Hi Simon, nice meeting you! I'm looking forward to your entries although it'll be quite a challenge to top Amy ;) As for the task you've set us: We know that you are a married man, that your wife's name is Mehpare and that you have a 2-year-old daughter called Nehir Irene. I believe that you've lived several years in Turkey and that you generally like travelling as Turkey isn't a very common travel destination, even less popular to settle down in from a westerner's point of view (or am I wrong?). I don't think that you can speak Turkish fluently but I suppose that you've picked up many useful phrases. An acronym is the combination of the initial letters of an expression consisting of two or more words. I would say that it is a special form of abbreviations. Examples: NBA, CEO, NHS... "Then" in this context means that you are referring to your girlfriend at a certain time which you were just speaking of. Now three phrases that I can think of: Time flies when you're enjoying yourself. It seems that it was only yesterday when Peter proposed to Ellen. I haven't realized that it's already ten o'clock. Hope that my answers are alright. Cheers

Hi, Simon! Nice to meet you. Welcome to the blog. There are my homework: What I know about you now: 1. You are a “digital immigrant”. It is mean that you grew up without using technology but started using it later in life. 2. You are married with your former girlfriend and her name is Mehpare. 3. You are a teacher blogger for the BBC and you are thinking that your mom will be proud to hear it. What I can guess about you: 1.It is wonderful for you to work on the BBC site as a teacher blogger. I think so because you thanked the BBC team for giving you the opportunity to work. 2.11 years ago you didn’t know very well how to use a computer. I think so because you believed that the only way how you could access your personal email was to go to work for your computer where an account was opened. 3.You are going to work not only with your student blogger but with other students too. I think so because you gave the exercise not only the student blogger but the group of students. 2. Guessing from context. Acronym is the abbreviation from the first letters of an expression, for example ASAP – as soon as possible; SNAFU – situation normal – all fucked up. The expression “then girlfriend” is meaning the former girlfriend. 3. Developing lexis: 1.It doesn’t seem so long ago 2. Time real flies, doesn’t it? 3.It seems only yesterday she was born.

Hello Simon! If you're a "digital immigrant" so am I and a still worse one! I'm not hopeless but I've still got work cut out to be a whizz at computer! I agree with you time flies and I know why I'm saying that... OUr sons are 22 and 17. And it seems to me like only..the day before yesterday that they were born! Now related to your challenge...You've been living in Turkey for twelve years; You are married and dad of a little girl. You're likely to be an Englishman because you mention you're a native speaker at the end of you blog and an english teacher as you attend a conference on ELT. And you probably need your wife's help to use your computer cos she still laughs at you. An acrnym is formed by the first letters of words which make up a noun: UNICEF, NATO 'which stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation). your then girl friend : the girlfriend you had at that time (Mehpare already). It really doesn't seem so long ago. Actually that was 11 years ago. Time really flies.I'm looking forward to your next blog . Bye.

Dear Simon, Warm welcome as a teacher blogger in this site! First of all, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Kishor Silwal from Nepal. I work in one of the casino in Nepal in night shift so I’m night owl. I am married with two kids-a son and a daughter. The son is about 11 years and the daughter is 6 years. Though my works don’t demand high efficiency in English, I’m reading and writing comments in this from last year whenever possible to brush up my language skill. Nobody knows how time flies. You have been living in Turkey for twelve years where you get married with your then girlfriend and now having a two year old daughter. You acquired computer knowledge after graduating as an English teacher and you are native English speaking person and ready to help us how native speaker plays with English words. You are happy with your family and working environment (This is my guess). Acronym means short form of any name using first letter of each word like BBC for British Broadcasting Corporation, USA for United State of America, WHO for World Health Organisation etc. In your context then stands for that time or in that time. Time expression used in your text are -that was 11 years ago, during my second year in Turkey, it doesn’t seem so long ago, it seems like only yesterday,

Nice to meet you Simon! I´m Ana Paula from Brazil. I really hope that you enjoy being our teacher blog as much as we like this blog area. Anyway, let´s get down business. 1- Comprehension: Well, you´re a ELT teacher in Turkey. You´re married with Mehpare and have a 2 years old daughter called Nehir Irene ( Happy Birthady Nehir :-) ). Now my guesses about you. I think you aren´t very much interesting in computers because of the little incident you´ve told us about the e-mail. Besides, it seems that you have a strong bond with Turkey, once your daugther has a Turkish name. Moreover, I reckon you´re a teacher who likes to challenge your students :-). 2- An acronym is an abbreviation such as FCE, which reminds that I have some homework for doing for this exam. Anyway, 'my then girlfriend' means that by that time your wife was your girlfriend. 3- Time flies, it seems like yesterday, it doesn´t seem so long ago. Well Simon, I´m looking forward to hearing from you again. Best wishes, Ana Paula.

Hi Simon! Nice to meet you. I’m Nata from Belarus. I feel very uncertain about my English and I hope that you will help me to improve it. I also hope that this communication will be enjoyable and helpful not only for us but in some respect for you too. Ok, I know that you spent in Turkey at least 2 years and you met your wife there. I can guess that your wife is native Turk (her name sounds Turkish). You have a beautiful daughter, she is 2 years old and her name is Nehir Irene. I guess that you and your wife are fond of geography and history because you named you daughter not just Mary or Kate but found this interesting name for her. Acronym is a shortening which if formed by writing the first letters of words from word combination. For example BBC –British Broadcasting Corporation “My then girlfriend” means the girl with whom you was in love at that time (or maybe I’m wrong =)) 3. Developing lexis. It’s difficult. Maybe like this: Time has slipped by Time has flown but I didn’t notice Time has gone by but I didn’t notice You should give the right answers in the next post =)

Hello to everybody! Thank you for creating this site, and thanks to Bïa from Algeria who made me know it! I'll try to answer the questions: 1)You currently live in Turkey with your wife, with whom you have been engaged for more than 11 years. You have a nice wee girl who is 2 years old. And her name reminds of two very good things: a river and peace. I can guess you didn't know much about computer science until some years ago; You have never taken up such an activity, before; you celebrated your daughter's birthday by buying her a very sweet present, ehehe.. 2) An Acronym, as many said, is an abbreviation. I report one from the "computer world", which is plenty of them: USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. "Then", in that context, means "at that time", "at that moment". 3) Time has gone by, but I couldn't perceive it. Time has elapsed without feeling it. I can remember yesterday as though it were today. Bye!

Hi Simon,I am very pleased to hear from you.About the challenge I can say that your name is Simon, that you are married with Mehpare and that you hAve a lovely two year old daughter. An acronym is made up of some initial letterswhich stand for longer words ,for instance Nato,Unicefand so one. "Then",in this context means that Mehpare was your girlfriend eleven years ago, a)It really doesn't seem so long ago b)time really flies doesn't it? c)It seems like only yesterday. Bye bye for now Maione

You´ve been living in TUrkey for quite a long time, over a decade! You may speak Turkish like you speak English. At home you may speak Turkish with your wife and baby daughter. You might have met your wife in England and then decided to go to Turkey to be with her! Or she might have been your English student when you arrived in Turkey. She could also have been a belly dancer who seduced the British foreigner! You may live in Stambul or Ankara. Hello Steven, nice to meet you online. After having read your wonderful entry, I found out that you moved to Turkey 12 years ago and lived there for at least 2 years, you're married and have a 2-year-old daughter. I guess you're in your 30s (having a look at a photo of you), you're a witty person (judging by your humorous writing style) and you can speak at least some Turkish (as you used a Turkish expression at the end). An acronym is an abbreviation for several words consisting of their initial letters, i.e TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). My then girlfriend refers to a girlfriend you had at that time in the past you're talking about now. You use "it really doesn't seem so long ago", "time really flies", and "it seems like only yesterday" to express your sensation of time passing quickly. That's all for now, best wishes

Hi Simon, I'm very happy for knowing people from other parts of our beautiful planet. An acronym is a word made up from the first letters of words for example: VIP (Very Important Person) in Spanish we say SIDA, but in English we say AIDS. Could you tell me if CCTV(closed-circuit Television) is an acronym? I'm afraid not. On the other hand, when you say:" my then girlfriend" you mean a girlfriend you have in the past, However, today she is no longer your girlfriend but your wife. Besides, it's an adjective, for example, I lived in USA for 3 years, and my then work was .... is that ok? I'm right, ain't I?. About the other question, time does flies? How time flies? would you mind telling me where it goes?

Hello Simon, First of all welcome to the month of September. As this website is for learning and teaching of English Language, we are here for doing homework and sharing things. I would like to try. 1.You are the teacher blogger for this month. 2. You are married with your then girlfriend Mehpare and you have a 2 years old daughter. I liked your daughter's name verymuch. 3. You were in Turkey 11 years ago. I guess: 1. Your wife is turkish because Mehpare is turkish name. 2. You are a greek becasue your daughter's name is combination of Turkish and Greek Word. 3.I couldn't gess. Let's move to next question, an acronym is a short form of words which is used for the ease of writing or repeatation. For example: ADB: Asian Development Bank HMG: His Majesty Government UN: United Nations My then girlfried means she is no more your girlfriend but she was your girl friend in past. Now she is your wife. 1. Time just flies 2. It seems like yesterday I could do this much. I need your assistance. Kiran

A very warm Welcome from the plus 50 Ahwaz in Iran. First of all I should say that I like the way you started your blog by involving all the readers. Blog I guess is the shortened form for weblog.1.Well, what I think I know/guess about you is that you've been living in Turkey for about 12 years. Your native language is English; your wife is Turk (and she, I reckon is some sort of expert on computer science. Are you half British, half Greek? You are teaching English in Turkey. 2. Acronym is a word which is formed from the first letters of some words, for example BBC (British Broadcating Corporation); Your then girlfriend is your present wife.3. a.Time flies, b. It doesn't seem long ago, c. It seems like only yesterday...

Hello Simon, Hearty welcome to the blog and looking forward to learn English from you this month. I too had a laugh while reading your perception on email account in your past. Even I had such experience while working in computers, it just struck me now, in my college days that’s the first time I have used the computer where had to do programming. While programming I suppose to use ‘^’ key in the program which I didn't do. So my mentor said press ‘caret ’, I replied saying where is carrot and then I realized it is caret key and laughed myself. Here I go with few challenges, on comprehension: Things that are clear from your post; you are currently living in Turkey with your family. You had celebrated your daughter's birthday day before yesterday. Of course you are the teacher blogger of this month. Finally, You had a girlfriend 11 years ago ;-) !. I suppose you are a jovial person as I can see you have started this blog with funny thing as first thing mentioning about your email account misconception. Hi Simon! I congratulate you on starting as a Teacher Blogger and wish you good luck! My name is Alex, and I have just decided to join this blog as a correspondent after some period of reading it and found it vary interesting. I hope these exercises will help me to improve my English. So, turn to the task. What do I know about you? 1) You are a married man. (You have written so yourself.) 2) You are the September Teacher Blogger, according to the message from BBC Learning English at Friday, 29 August 2008. But I respect BBC. 3) You are a human being! (This follows from the statement 1.) What can I guess about you? 1) You prefer hot climate to cold one. I have no idea how I could guess this. 2) You have been leaving in Turkey about twelve years. Not need to be an Isaac Newton to calculate! 3) … I am afraid that is all. Here are three phrases about transiency of the time. 1) … really doesn’t seem so long ago… 2) Time really flies doesn’t it! 3) It seems like only yesterday that… You also asked about acronyms. I know some, for example, IMHO, FYI, LOL. Bye! Best wishes.

Hi, Simon! I'm writting just to say hello and welcome. I need to be quick because I'm so busy these days... Kisses, Sheila.

Hi Paco I have read your comments,i really admire at your comprehension which is better than mine!!l hope you can note this!!Best wishes!! Dino

Hello Simon, I like the way, you wrote your first blog as our teacher. A warm welcome to you and now I try to solve the task, you gave us:I know about you, that you live in Turkey and that you married your former girlfriend, called Mehpare. You both have a 2 year old daughter, and you celebrated her birthday yesterday.11 years ago you had a very special way to access your personal email account on your computer, but nowadays it had changed.Oh, sorry I have to stop know, I try to continue later. See you soon...

All friends, Here is my three facts and three guesses for our teacher Simon Johnson. Fact, Your Name Simon Johnson. You are a man, and a father of a two years old daughter. You are an English Teacher and currently you live in Turkey. Guess, Nehir Irene is your first kid, as you didn’t mention that you have another kid. Your wife is better than you in computer technology as from your post I learned that she knows more than you know in computer technology. You like and enjoy to have parties, You celebrated your daughter’s two years old birthday with a all day ong party, I bet you enjoyed more than her as she is only two year olds, won’t be that sociable. I can guess more. You like to laugh or have fun are good at remembering being laughed. You suggested to have laugh while studying English and you mentioned twice that your wife and then girl laughed you. Thank you for your idea of three facts and three guesses, this is fun. All the best and say hello to your wife and your beautiful daughter. One more fact and guess, your wife is beautiful too. Lin

Hallo Simon, Nice to meet you. I hope to find enough time respond to all your blogs and to have a great fun. What I know about you. 1. You are not teenager any more I guess, because you are not a computer expert. 2. You are married to the one (computer expert). Because She laughs at You. 3. You want to impress your Mum (my intuitive guess) 4.You are prone to laugh at youself. This means that you are a very healthy man. 5. Your daugher loves parting and takes father with her, and He needs time to recover afterwards. An acronym is built of first letters of many words which costitute full name of something. My then girlfriend means that She is not the one anymore. 1. It really doesn't seem so long ago 2. Time really flies doesn't it? 3. It seems like only yesterday that ... . Bye.

Hello Simon! It's very nice to meet you! I'm Yen. I'm sure we will learn a lot from your blogs. First, 'Happy birthday to Nehir Irene!'. Now, Time to put my thinking caps on and take up the first challenge. 1/ You are an English teacher in Turkey. Then you got married to the girlfriend who had laughed and now still does at your technology skill. You like it when your mother are so proud of things you do. And here go my guesses - You will post some photos of your family and your little daughter's birthday party in your next blogs because we are glad to know your beloved family, of course if you don't mind. You love rivers, don't you? so you made your daughter's name - a very nice name. And Mehpare must be very good at technology then she dares laugh at you. 2/ Acronym is formed by the first letters abbreviated for a group of words. For example, UNESCO is an acronym for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. 3/ I know just one verb apart from to fly in 'Time flies!' that is to elapse for instance Over two years have elapsed since your daughter-Nehir Irene was born. Well, that's all. Thank you for your interesting questions. Best wishes to you and your family. Yen,

Hi Simon, I enjoyed reading your blog and will do my best to improve my English with the rest. 1) 3 things that I definitely knew about you, your name is Simon and you're married to Mephare and have one daughter age 2. Her name is Nehir. 3 others things I could guess about you that you were not frequent user of internet or maybe not use it all at early age till recently the reason I said this because u mentioned about someone said that you're "digital immigrant". From the blog, I guess that you live in Turkey and you never thought that one day you will be teacher blogger, teaching online. 2) Acronym is the initial letters from several word in the name like short form. Example - BBC British Broadcasting Corporation my then girlfriend - your girlfriend at that time 3) Three phrases 1- it really doesn't seem so long ago when my girlfriend laughed at me. 2- Actually, that was 11 years ago... 3- It seems like only yesterday that she was born

Hi Simon, I'm sorry for being late! I got a surprise visit from an old friend of mine. Entertaining my guest seemed more important than blogging at that time. But I'm all set and ready now. Maybe I should start with introducing myself. I'm male (obvious), 39 and from Germany. At school I hated English and was one of the worse students. I really started to learn English while travelling and working abroad. I lived three years in Canada and a half year in Scotland. I consider myself a fluent English speaker. But my handicap is my written English. After obtaining my MA in Psychology I applied for doctoral studies at the Fraser University in Vancouver. For doing so, I had to send in an essay. Writing this essay was very hard for me and I finally decided to give up my plans to continue my studies in Canada. I continue to teach psychology at the same university I graduated from. But I was not happy in doing so. Years later I found myself working for an organisation which tries to help people in long time unemployment to re-enter the job market. There were many Russian speaking Germans (there are more than 3 million Russian speaking Germans living in Germany). I realised that their lack of language proficiency was the main barrier to find employment. So I started to teach German to those Russian speaking Germans. I loved that very much! I decided that I want to go abroad to teach German or English (if possible). But for doing that I needed some kind of qualification. I applied for a four week CELT (Certificate of English Language Teaching) in Ireland and got accepted. I'm very excited because that course is going to start next Monday. I tried to improve my written English during the last four months but I'm afraid it is still not very good. Simone - please help me to "polish up" my writing skills, so I can become a language teacher in Japan. Bye for now! Marvin

Hell the late comer, first of all, welcome Simon! Though I have missed your first very compelling blog but I would still like to complete my homework. I hope, I’ll catch up with the rest. Let me appreciate your way of teaching. Three fact of your life are very obvious from your first blog. First is that you are HAPPILY married with one pretty daughter. The second is that you are residing in Turkey. And the third is that you really do not try to hide your communication skills (laugh)--- beside this very good quality the real third fact reflecting from your blog is that you must have work hard to understand the digital world. Guess work: my speculation is that you like to learn other languages. I concluded this because you used Gule Gule at the end. Using traditional words of a foreign language reflects that one is always ready to learn and use other languages. Since you are here as a language teacher so it also seems self explanatory. Secondly, you like the mixture of different cultures and languages. The key source of this guess is your daughter’s name. You seem to be a polite person but you must be a bit harsh when it comes to professional matters. “You are here to learn aren’t you?” made me write this. I am happy to have a friendly, yet a professionally and strict teacher. Guessing from the context is to grasp the key concept of a text. Understanding a certain word with the help of the context, even if you are not aware of the literal meaning of that particular word would also considered as guessing from the context. Acronym: a word form from the initial letters of a name of a person, organization or country e.g. CIA. Please mention the difference between acronym and abbreviation My then girlfriend mean now her status has been changed in your life. She is your wife now.

Hello Simon, welcome to the bbc blog. It's very nice to meet you. I'm sure we are going to have a nice time with you and Marvin this month. Let me try to do the task you assigned. First of all comprehension: 1) You seem to be a family man as you told us about the time you spent playing with your daughter. 2) You are not in to technology, for you said that not long ago you didn't know you could open e-mails from any computer. 3) You are married to a turkish woman for you said you had a girlfriend in Turkey and she's now your wife. Guessing the meaning: 1) acronym is a combination of letters each one representing a word such as UN which stands for United Nations. 2) my then girlfriend means that she was your girlfriend in the past, specifically at the time you are referring to. 3) Developing lexis: 1) It really doesn't seem so long ago 2) Time really flies. 3) It seems like only yesterday. I hope I did well. Hope to see you more soon. Bye for now.

It is totally a brand new style of English learning for me, very impressed. Have a nice rock-and-roll on September. See you around, Simon.
