Antlers downed!

No don’t worry this blog is not about hunting but a short blog about football.
Last night rather than forcing my way through the crowds of yoi-yama I chose the crowds of football fans instead, I went to see Kyoto Sanga against Kashima Antlers. Antlers are a BIG team in J1 and are top of the table. They are one of the teams that often challenges for the title here in Japan. But I don’t like them! Why not? Well I support the local team, which is Kyoto Sanga they are one of the smallest teams in J1. Antlers seem to have a bad attitude I think, they behave as if they should not have to come to Kyoto to get the points that they need to be champions. On the other hand I understand that it could be said that they are a big team with good players who are confident and expect to win every game and there isn’t anything wrong with that. The other reason I don’t like Antlers is that they keep beating Sanga the last two times by big scores too. However, Sanga have beaten Antlers before and guess what time of year those victories were? Yes in the heat and humidity of a Kyoto summer. So it proved again last night as Sanga and Antlers played a nice open attacking game with good chances for both side, but the Kyoto summer helped Sanga to a great 2-1 win and despite last night being yoi-yama there were still over 15,000 fans there to see it, that is a good attendance for Sanga. The next home game for Sanga is on Monday evening against FC Tokyo. I can’t wait! GO SANGA!

Hello Simon, I couldn't catch up with your previous blogs but compensated for that with your latest post. I think the win of Kyoto Sanga over Antlers is the lesson for them that things can change anytime and go in the opponents' favour. Along with you, we will also be looking forward to read about the next game with FC Kyoto. Best wishes, Naheed

Hi Simon, I would know what news arrive to Japan about Barça i Ronaldinho. Now he has changed to Milan after a bad year in Barcelona. Have you ever read anything in Japan? Do you miss the fairplay of the Premier League?

Hello Simon! You may count on another Sanga supporter. No I am not a footbal fan but being on a (seemingly) feebler side is something in my nature even in my profession. Best wishes!

Hi Simon, Thank you for the blog about football. It's fun to read it because I like football. My favorite team is Urawa Reds, as I live near Urawa. Sorry, but i have say this, I'm so glad Sunga beat Antlers yesterday, which helped Reds come back to the top of the table!! By the way,can I ask you about English? Does this sentence make sense?: Do you drive on the left in UK like in Japan? It'll be nice if you could answer my question. Best wishes.

Dear Simon, Congratulation on winning of your favourite team in yesterday’s tournament. It is a real blow to Kashima Antlers, isn’t it? As you informed us that Kashima Antlers is superior to Kyoto Sanga in every aspect but Sanga is able to beat them. Is Kyoto Sanga has improved its playing status or it became able to win because of home ground and weather is favourable to them? Is betting in any game popular in Japan? What is the nature of fans? Are they passive viewers or aggressive viewers? Is there any fight between supporters of club?

hi Simon it is the first time i have written a comment ,but I have read all your blogs.I like the way you describe the town you are living in.About football Ihave been a supporter of one of the oldest italian football teams for ages.Whenever it is possible I go to see the matches at the stadium of the most historical town of Tuscany.Even though they have neverwon a championship title,I keep supporting itthem.Their colour is purple. Can you guess the name of this very famous football team?bye for now Maione

Best regards to everyone and thank you Simon for very interesting writings... says Leila from her holiday trip somewhere in Finland.

GO SANGA, my wishes for another sweet victory for Sanga...

Hi Simon - reading your blog entry has reminded me of something, something that has always been a mystery to me: How can people support a football team (or any sports team) knowing exactly that they do not play very well and probably are going to lose anyway. Here in Austria for example, all the teams in the so-called "Bundesliga", which is the 1st league in this country, are pretty much - excuse my french - crap. And yet, there are lots and lots of fans who attend every game of their favourite team and indulge themselves with merchandising items - what for? Don't get me wrong, I do like football but only if it is good football. And unfortunately the Austrian football players still need a lot of practice... Cheers, Min

Hi Simon, The Photos you have taken through your mobile phone is really wonderful.Everything is very clean and tidy in all the places. It is very difficult to see like this in my country. Is everywhere like this? It is true that old and architectural buildings are demolished to build a modern apartments in all the major cities. It is difficult to preserve some the old houses in my place. because the people who owned migrated from their native. maintaining the building is big task.

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
