another dash...
Hello Xuan and everyone,
Hope you had a lovely weekend. We had a great time at the hotel. The kids had a ball (i.e. a great time) – that’s the only way to describe it. I had lots of plans to visit Bangkok, but the weather was against us. So we just watched movies in the room (it was absolutely tipping it down this afternoon) and swam in the pool. The hotel had a beautiful pool – one of the best I have ever seen – with lots of secret nooks and crannies (that means lots of different parts, where you could explore and hide) so the kids enjoyed playing hide and seek (do you know this game?) and splashing around.
But we have got home, and nothing seems to work properly. The cooker and the fridge are on half power. We’re trying to cook a chicken for tea and it is not going very well. So I can’t blog for long – I think I will have to dash off to the food stalls at the end of the road to get something for the kids to eat.
Ooops, in fact Steve is staring at me now, indicating that I have to stop typing, jump into the lift, dash off in the tuk tuk to get food for the kids. One final task before I go – here is the vocabulary from last time. Well done to everyone who tried to guess the meanings.
Hammering at the window – hitting the window hard
Power cut – when the power e.g. electricity stops working
Fell like dominoes – knocked each other down, one after the other
Fly off – go away quickly
Sorry that I have to fly off again everyone. Speak to you again tomorrow night, hopefully in a less rushed fashion.
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hi Anne: I admire you because it seems you have solutions for every kind of problem. But, above all, it seems you have a very optimistic way of life. Haven't you? Perhaps people who has travelled a lot, and people who live abroad, have more resources and are used to solve more problems. For me is very important that you, as a teacher and as a kind person, give me and all the readers, a bit of fresh air with each of your blogs. Kindest regards for you and your family. See you soon. Hi Anne! Im Mimee, by the way Im just new here at BBC Learning English. I read the blogs of your students ( especially Sylvia's blog co'z Im studying Spanish language) and your blogs as well. I find them fantastic! I think that by reading all your blogs I will be able to brush up my English very well. Hope I could also ask you some questions regarding English Grammar though Im not a student blogger.. Have a stress free week!
Dear Anne, Nature is always powerful than human beings. All your plans to visit length and breadth of Bangkok were ruined by rain but it impacts us adversely because we were expecting to read some more interesting things of your visit. It is just opposite case in your situation of saying it is better to have something than having nothing. It might to be in danger to operate electrical equipment on half power.
Hi Anne, I'm sorry to hear that you still have electricity problems. But, apparentely you solve them very quickly. I admire you for being a positive person. What zodiac sign are you? You made me chuckle when you mentioned that Steve was staring at you in order to stop you from typing. Oscar always does the same. Since he works on the computer at home I have to be alert and use the computer when it's free and I'm always writing very quickly because of his staring eyes. Men are the same in all parts of the world. Hope you get to normal at last. Bye for now. xxx Cris
Hi,Anne,I have a question here. Before I got into the entry of blog here,I got a suggestion that here is a place to improve my writing ability. But how? Mostly I just read what in the blog but hadn't any opinions about it or didn't like to express my opinions. So what should I do to it?
Hi Anne! I used to play a lot hide and seek with my sisters when I was a child :-). I loved to hide myself at the dog´s house. the house´s dog was near to a tree and my dear dog never gave single tip to my sisters that I was hidden there. Oooh childhood is a wonderful time, isn´t it? :-) See ya, Ana Paula.
Oh, most students and pupils in Vietnam are in the time for final exam , I am ,too, really stress. Your constant blog is not only help me improve my English but also give me relaxed time. I am new here and my English is not good, but i want to say : thankyou ^^
Hi,Ann Did you manage to feed your family last night? It sounds that you were understanderably disappointed because you had expected that everything went back to normal after making the great effort to avoid inconvenience. I do hope that things are improving soon for you. By the way, do you mind if I pick your brains for a minute? The other day we went to a showroom to see colour schemes. There were a band of people looking around the house and I overheard someone said “it is a must be a big kitchen we’ve seen so far”. I have been wondering if it is correct grammatically. Have a good dayxx
Josh is a lucky boy, because he can travel by the tuk tuk. Many children would be jealous of him. My son is fascinated by all kinds of mopeds. I hope your electricity problems would be solved soon. Although candles are beautiful, it’s not safe and practical to have them in the children’s bedroom. Power cuts are very rare in Finland. The last power cut was two and half years ago here. A snowstorm had fallen some trees on electric wires then.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
