Playgroups and Dance groups
Hope you are all having a good Thursday wherever you are.
I just got back home after a playgroup session and Teah has zonked out so I have a couple of hours to myself. The playgroup I take Teah to is an informally organized meeting of a few friends and their toddlers who range from 14 months old to about 2 years. This week it was held in the building opposite mine in a friend’s apartment. You can see Mums and babies in the picture below, I told them all to sit on the rug and pose but Teah kept getting up and running towards me shouting ‘Mama!”. I was on the cusp of giving up when I finally managed to get this shot.

The kids run riot and we try to have a natter over a few cups of tea with cakes and biscuits.
I read an article that made me laugh yesterday and as I have mentioned elderly ladies dancing in China in previous blogs, I thought I’d share this story with you. It was an interview with a 70 year-old Chinese lady who calls herself the ‘Hip-Hop Granny’. She saw teenagers doing hip-hop a few years ago and thought it looked like fun so she signed up for a class( I didn’t even know that one could learn hip-hop at a dance studio). However the dance teacher refused to let her join in because he thought she might injure herself. Refusing to be discouraged, she just turned up every class and stood in the back of the gym copying what the young hip-hop students were doing and taught herself by mirroring. Now she is the creator and head of Beijing’s Hip-Hop Granny Dance Team, they are a group of five all over 55 years old and even enter competitions apparently! She has become a favourite amongst foreign reporters as she has been inundated with requests for interviews lately and you might all get to see her team’s hip-hop moves because she is asking the government if her team can dance for the Beijing Olympics!! She's an inspiration to us all don't you think?!
Cheers
Trudi

Hi,Trudi How are you and all your family? I was so excited and thrilled to your compliment on my comment the day before yesterday.. You made me feel like the cat that got the cream. I’d love to thank you for putting a lot of your time and commitment into your every single entries in advance as we are going away this weekend and I am pretty sure that chances are very slim to write my comment on your entries again during this weekend. It’s been a great pleasure to read your letters and learn fresh and unique vocabularies, idioms and so on. Hi, Trudi! What great information about 70-year-old Chinese lady! My second profession is a fitness trainer and here, in Ireland, I am working as volunteer with elderly people. However, my old ladies hardly can dance, especially hip-hop (although I can a little). But I have a hope that with time they will be dancing too. But I prefer ballet… Good luck with Chinese weather! Bye.P.S. If you can, please sent the photo 70-year-old to the blog. I'll show it to my old ladies.
Hi, trudi¡¡ I'crossing my fingers because this is the third comment that I have written althoguh I I couldn't read in your blog. Ok, I hope this time I'm going to have better luck. Anyway, The story about the old lady is quite interesting, Can you image... in the Olimpic Games, dancing and singing these ladies??? All of them are given a lesson to everybody. Bye, Fingers crossed
Dear Trudi, Is there any play group organised by school system? Here, in Nepal, play group is also run Primary school in city areas. Though most of local residence lives in joint family system and elder persons are available to look after toddler. Nowadays, peoples from different parts of countries are living in Kathmandu valley and most of them are in nucleus family system. So, most of the people starts to send their children to school at the age of 3-4, starting from play group. Story about hip-hop granny is very interesting and certainly it is thinkable that some people, even other people don’t believe, are determined to achieve whatever they want. Their stories can guide a path to everyone. Unless and until, there is a strong will, there is a way. Nowadays, in Nepal we can read some stories about old persons who have past SLC exam (School Leaving) at the age 83. Some peoples are joining school with their grandchildren and so on.
Toddlers and mums sounded good Trudi. When I lived in London (for 5 years... over 20 years ago ), I used to admire how mums and kids organized get-togethers. Me and my daughter also used to participate in these type of meetings. We also used to go for walks in parks, went baby swimming, puppet theatre… all sorts of activities we used to do together. I can see from your picture that your group is international. This was the case with us also; our main group had mums from Scotland, Italy, Lebanon, America, and of course English mums. Those were the days… I would like to wish you all the best in the future Trudi.
Hello Trudi ! Its really gr8 to know about such a enthusiastic and energetic persons like our old lady of your previous blog.It gives us inspiration to fight and fight with all odds of life and gain some real happiness :-). In my childhood i had read a story about an old man learning "Chinese" in his late 90's. While traveling on a Ship he met a young man .. The Young man asked "hey you are learning Chinese at this age do you know its among world's toughest languages .. and i don't think so u'll be able to learn it completely" the old man then replied back to him.."hey come on don't talk like losers at least i'll com to know some words of the language and I am satisfied in that too" and that should be the spirit in every one of us up to the time we are living and actually that is a correct way to live life fully.well this is my second try to get a place in your blog's comment section and i hope this time i'll get a chance :-) if not then also i'll try next time as now it is a passion for me to learn English so that one fine day I'll see my self speaking Pure and correct English.

Hi Trudi, interesting different ways of life. I found this link about the meaning of Easter, http://www.gnmagazine.org/issues/gn63/easter.htm One of the explanations seems to be an old error in translation. Have a good weekend
HEllo !! I've just read your Erasmus' post. Where did you stay during your holiday in Spain??? I'm fron Catalonia. I have a question, this stuff of Erasmus... when you go on Erasmus, do you study in this country wherre you are like a guest? I want to go on Erasmus because I think that studing a language without living in its country is a totally nonsense. I am studing German and French, so I am interested on travelling but unluckily I have no money. In fact I'm both studying and working at the moment and you can guess... my holiday will start and finish in my work. I am sorry if you don't understand my writting. If it is difficult to follow please, tell me and I will write it again trying to do more simple sentences (My expression is horrible, I know.. )
Hi Trudi, how are you? What interesting story you told us about hip-hop granny! I want to thank you for your dedication to read all the readers comments in spite of short time. I admire you. I haven't got any child and I'm always run out of time. I work in an office, go to a sports centre and do the house tasks. Now I'm trying to practise English through this page. Hope you have a nice weekend. xo
Hi Trudi! What an uplifting story! Once I´ve read an article about eldery ladies who had taken up belly dancing classes. It was said that the benefits of this activity for them were amazing. These ladies are also an inspiration for us. Don´t think so Trudi? Have a nice weekend, Ana Paula.
Hey Trudi, the story of old Chinese lady was fantastic.I am really inspirated by the courage she has shown.Hats off to her.She is paradigm example for showing that nothing is impossible if one has a strong desire of acheiving something.
Hi Trudi, I am very weak at tenses.I don't understand the difference between perfect and perfect continuous tenses. Please tell me how can I expand my limited vocabulary. Thank you bye.
Trudi, I forgot to ask you something. In one of your sentences you wrote "is an informally organized meeting". I don't understand gramatically why you put "informally"( the adv)intead of "informal" (the adjective).Could I ask you to explain it to me? Many thanks,
Hi dear Trudi , What are you up to ? As tommorrow i 'm going away today i 'm writing my last comment on your entry . All of your Blogs were interesting and you inspired me to be active like you .And we have known chinees life more . i wish the best for you and your education and i wish the best for your family . have a nice time and byeeeee
Playground sessions look funny. Kids look really cute in that picture. Aw gosh I just love kids! Thank god you could take the shot. I just loved that article! She's proving to everyone that no matter how old are you, you can do everything! I mean EVERYTHING, even dancing hip-hop which apparently seems to be something difficult for me and I'm a 17 years old boy. I hope the government let she presents her hip-hop dance because I'm looking forward to watch it on TV!
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
