G’day possums! (Guess who?)
Hello everyone!
What’s happened to January? Where’s it gone? I’ve been saying to Chris for weeks that I was looking forward to catching up with everyone again, and now suddenly it’s nearly February!! Aaaaargh!!
So Happy New Year!! And how are you all? Did anyone happen to see the Sydney fireworks? They were pretty spectacular this year – friends of ours went down to the harbour to watch, which we weren’t brave enough to do with a two-year-old! It gets really crazy down there - people start camping out a day or so in advance, to get a good spot, which basically means sitting around in the baking hot sun! We actually spent New Year at a friend’s place – very casual, we did the Aussie thing and had a barbecue and a swim, which was great. There were some people there who we hadn’t seen for ages, so it was really nice to have a proper catch up.
Well, a few things have been happening since I was last in touch – I’ve got a new job, which is great fun but very full-on; I think it’ll be better when I find my feet. And my little boy has started preschool! He’s going 2 days a week, and he’s starting to get used to it; the first day he wouldn’t let me go and I ended up spending the whole day there! (Fortunately, I came prepared and brought something for lunch!) The second day he was much happier and I left after half an hour – the only thing was when I got home and saw all his trains all over the floor (yes, Hyoshil, Thomas the Tank Engine!) and he wasn’t there playing with them and I got all emotional … I guess that means when he starts proper school I’ll be a hysterical mess!! At least that won’t happen for another few years so I have time to prepare myself!
Talking of time, my wonderful husband has taught our boy a new phrase – “time is money”. You can laugh, but when we’re in a hurry to go out and Owen’s standing by the door with his hands on his hips going, “Come on Mummy, time is money”, it’s not so funny! I think Chris is starting to regret it too, now – Owen’s started standing outside the bathroom when Chris is inside and yelling it through the door!!
Here’s a picture for you – this was taken just before Christmas, and we were making Christmas cake. My Grandma always used to make the Christmas cakes in our family, and this year I asked my mum to send me the recipe so I could have a go, and it worked! I was a bit dubious – I didn’t think any Christmas cake could be as good as my Grandma’s, even one made to her recipe, but it was pretty close. It was also huge – it took us about 3 weeks to eat it (not a problem for me, I love Christmas cake!).

Anyway, it’s getting late, and I’ve managed to make myself hungry (why do I always end up writing about food?!), so I’ll say bye for now – I’ll be back again before the end of January (and I do mean this year!!) … Owen says hello to all the cheeky monkeys out there who might be reading this (actually, he says “time is money”!) …
Back soon,
Rachel

Hello, Rachel. I saw the Sydney fireworks three years ago! It was so amazing! I've never seen such spetacular fireworks in my life! So beautiful and gorgeous! I took a lot of pictures. And I remember it took more than half an hour to get my turn for a washroom at the place! There was a long long queue from the washrooms to backward. I've never kept waiting for my turn such a long time in my life! Fortunately, It was not in an emergency for me! After a long time, I went back to a place safely where my friends were enjoyed waiting for the fireworks! I saw a big silver ball hanging from the top of the bridge. Was it hung from just only once or another following year again? By the way, what a cute boy your son is! I like the picture. I guess he is a naughty boy, right? Time is money. I like the proverb. I pray for the healthy growth of Owen. See you.
Hey up Rachel! It is so great to hear from you again. At first I did not like to go to infant school either. I remember the first day when my father left me there and then he went away. I screamed aloud. LOL I think it is a normal reaction. Happy 2008 to you and yours!! Bye for now

Hi Rachel!I've discovered BBC LE Blog in October 2007 when you were the teacher blogger.I really loved your post, your writing style is so great. I was looking forward to read it every day.I was curious whether you write again in January, and I was so happy when I saw you came back to us. Owen is so cute, nice picture, thank you. Hope you'll write to us soon, and include some nice pictures.See you, Erika
Hi Rachel good to hear from you. Best wishes for you new job, I hope you are enjoying it, a challenge is always an admirable thing at your work place. I so envy your good old Australian summer weather. Good on you! I almost gave a miss to this blog entirely, our comments had not gone through at all, I felt so disheartened, but then I though I will make a statement, which I did! Luckily to everyone I did so, because almost 200 comments surfaced out from the wood work; with the help from Paul of course. All the best to a very nice possum friend.
Hi dear Rachel! It´s wonderful hear from you again :-). When you were our teacher blogger I´ve written for you talking about the Itapety Mountain. I´ve posted some pictures of the mountain on my blogs of January 19th and 21th. If you could be possible for you, take a look at the pictures, ok? Best wishes, Ana Paula.

After sometimes you will find your feet. Ahh.. Owen is cute in that picture. He seems silimer and a little older. Give a hug and kiss for him. Hello,my virtual teacher(or would mind if i call you a friend )and family in Aussie. Ohhh!Rachel,if you were with me I would love to give you a huge hug for the emotion you got. When my son was about 3 year old we decided to send him a nursery school.I know it sounds a bit early but we had just moved the area and my English wasn't good enough to make friends and I was very shy or afraid to make mistakes in Engish.so my son didn't have many opportunities to pick up or boost the languge as he had a little friends.Anyway,I took him to the nursery school. when I said to him goodbye he didn't bother i was leaving or not. he was only excited to explore the new world. It was me to cling on feeling of guilt and cried all the way home and as saw some his favourite toys(Thomas the Tank Engine and some toy cars) at home I just wept bitterly. When I just managed to compose myself my husband rang me and asked how thing went.can you imagine what I did? yep,I was in floods of tears again and it brought tears to my hubby's eyes.we were too softies, were we?It is so great to hear from you again and I am happy for you and your family as you all are well and of course good luck about your new job. Owen looks so fablous in the picture.would you please say hello to your son from my son,William and my family? Well,it's time to put my little tiger in bed.See you Soooooon HYOSHILXXXX
Hi Rachel.. Thanks for posting a very beautiful snap of your cute baby. Which item he is eating in picture? . Congrats- your baby started to go school. What is his age ? How many words of English language he speaks and with what pronunciation. ? Which words he speaks most ? Here, in India, some people distribute sweets to their friends and office colleagues, on first day of school of baby. It is really a happy moment. I still remember, when we sent my baby Manila (girl baby, now 6.5 years of age) first time for pre-schooling and proceeded for my office. My wife, who is a house-wife, kept weeping in a home till child not returns from School. It was really a very hard time for her. Child separation for few hours has been intolerable for her. When child returned home, she hugged /cuddled the child for a quite few time. O my mother, I owe you for the love and affection you bestowed upon me. You are great and worshipable.
