Hello, I’m Socks

Good afternoon! My name’s Socks. I’m Panther’s sister – we’re twins. Do we look alike? I’m the only one of Jo’s pets that you haven’t yet met. Jo’s taking the day off – having a long weekend – so I’m blogging instead.
I’m a very small kitty, but I’m very practical and sensible too. If I’m hungry, I go out and catch a mouse to eat. If I’m very tired, I sleep for two days. And if my socks (my white feet) get dirty, I wash them clean. I like everything to be just so.
If things aren’t just so, I do something clever and inventive to get my own way. For example, when we first moved to this house, we didn’t have a catflap. I couldn’t come and go as I pleased. So I left home for a week. Just disappeared. Jo got really worried, which was my plan. Then I came home again. Jo and Richard were so excited to see me, they decided to put a catflap in the door. So now I can go out or come in whenever I please. I find that it really helps to be small, cute and cuddly if you want things to go your own way. It was a clever plan, wasn’t it? As I said, I’m practical.
And Ha, I have some practical tips for you too. Jo tells me that you’re as busy as a bee at work, and that you often have to write emails in English in your job. So, I’ve got some work abbreviations for you. You can use them in your business e-mails.
ASAP: as soon as possible
BTW: by the way
FTAO: For the attention of (add the person’s name after this)

Now, there’s one thing I need your advice on. I like to go out for lots of walks, and there’s a big black male cat who lives nearby. He’s a bit of a bruiser. He beats me up a lot. Yesterday he bit my leg. What can a little kitty like me do? I try to fight back, but he’s too strong. Do you have any advice?
Yours very properly,
Miss Socks

Hi, lucky you are to have a catflap. I've got none. It's a bit annoying to live in a block of flats. My mistress Lena isn't too sensible to have her flat on the 6th floor, she doesn't take my rheumatism into account, says I am faking it(and I've bee a retired cat already). Also that locked door at the central entrance, I always have to wait for someone to let me in, fortunately I am quick enough to take my place in the lift(no wonder,I am a well-civilised cat and got used to living in a modern high-tech city). Thanks for listenning to the old grumbler, bye. PS ready to help with the black cat, if it were not for my rheumatism, coughing, headache, etc...
Dear Miss Socks, You are indeed so cuty! However, I don´t think you look like Panther. As a matter of fact, I think you are by far more beautiful than him( oh, please, don´t let Panther knows about this, he probably will be very upset with me :-) ). Now listen to me my dear inventive Sock, don´t you live with a imposing German Shepherd called Raffles, do you? So what about ask her for some help in this matter, hmm? Just two barks, and this bruiser cat will run away like a frightened mouse. You´ll see. Or... maybe Scraty, the boss, can help you too. She´s the one who likes to smack and put order in everthing. Well, I´m sure she´ll be pleased in teach this guy, oops! I mean cat, a good lesson. Well, I guess it´s all Socks, good luck and say hello to Jo for me, ok? Be brave ;-), Ana Paula.
Hi Socks. Nice to e-see you.Your name suits you very well. You're a very nice kitten. I hope you won't have kittens about the acts of the bully cat any more. Panther, although he was as inspiring, isn't as charming as you are nice, but he seems stronger. I wonder whether he's in the know! Don't worry I won't spill the beans! Socks, you asked for advice. He beats you and bit your leg. It's up to you to understand what he really means by beating and biting you. Well, let me work it out with you. I've thought about different approaches to keep him out of harm's way because there's more than one way to skin a cat, but I'd rather go for making peace with him. So, why not face his bullying tactics by using your own weapons? "Mind over matter"! He's strong, but you're clever and practical. To tell the truth,I've a little acquaintance with the realm of cats, but I dare say that the best means you can try is to make eyes at him if you don't have eyes for somebody else and then wait and see. I'm sure you can get engaged and maybe name the day very soon. And it'll be bully for both of you! What do you think Jo about my writing? Best regards.
Hi Jo, My name is Hualan. I am new here. You probably want to know a bit more about me. I am originally from China and I’ve been living in Melbourne for about five years now. My English stays at a not-so-bad level. It’s okay for me to have general conversation with the locals. But when it comes to a professional way or further discussion, I normally run out of proper words. I guess I need more readings, right? Recently I’ve been looking for ways to better my English. I am so glad to find your blog. I never find English learning so not boring. The way you tell a story in a cat’s tune is creative. I was like reading a children’s book. Are you only hosting July? Would I be able to read more of your blogs? Please tell Socks that I like her. She’s got a very cute name. I like the story about catflap, how she got things her own way. She’s a very clever cat indeed. I have read all your posts of July and I really enjoyed reading them. So I think I should write something to let you know that. Cheers, Hualan
Hello Miss Socks, Good to meet u. I love cat very much. In Chinese society, Black cats with white socks are the perfect cat for catching mouse. Therefoe you must be very famous if you move here... B.rgds, Gloria
Hello Miss Socks, It's very nice to e-meet you. I really like the way you get things to go your own way. In fact, it flogs a dead horse to me to apply your tricks - now I am not such a small and cuddle kitty as you. So take every advantage of your opportunity. To your problem, I don't know whether this thing helps or not. When cathing mice, spare one and tie it to a string, leave it behind you when you go out for a walk - then cut the string as the bruiser is about to attack you. I don't know for sure you or the mouse would be magnetic to him. Good luck to you. Give my wishes to your twin and the others.
Dear Miss Socks, it was such a pleasure to read your blog. You appear to be my kindred; I also want things to be just so. I am sorry to hear that the cat next door is such a brute, beastly cat indeed. There is unfortunately very little one can do with bullies like him. It doesn´t help at all knowing, that bullies are often very unhappy creatures. My advice is that you stay close to your catflap and look as cool as a cucumber. That way you are safe and your behavior will annoy the bully cat so much, that he will leave you alone at the end. One more thing, do you purr a lot? Best regards to Jo.
I'm enjoying reading your blogs. You're such a pet lover and all your pets are so cute. BTW, I wonder your cats got neutalization surgery..
Nice to meet you ,and you've got a fabulous name"socks".Jo, could you please give a name of my new born nephew? I will put a photo in my facebook later. Well, as for the advice of dealing with A Bruiser, the only solution i can come up with is run, run, run then stay in your cosy catflap.
Hi Socks, Does " Yours very properly " sentence like the sentences which everybody often say at the end of a letter such as yours faithfully or best regards? Could you advise ? Thanks
Hello Socks, good to see you! Your plan of getting catflap was brilliant!. You know how to get what you want! It is cruel of big male black cat to scare you!. I have an advice for you! a very practical advice, I learnt from great person of history! I am sure you will like it as soon as you experience the effect of it. We call it 'Gandhigiri', it is another way of saying, 'non-violence'. What you need to do for using this principle is pretty easy, "just to do the opposite". Now next time, this black cat, wants to scare you and bit you, just smile, give him a flower! Don't fight back! You might not get quick effect of this Gandhigiri, but soon you will find, you are the strongest, the black cat, will become your friend and no more trouble you..! Soon black cat, will have respect for you and will no longer consider you a weak and try to trouble you!. You know Socks, superficially, this principle looks to be weird, but you have to experience it to believe it! though it is 'tested OK' principle. Anyway let me know, if this advice works for you or not. Enjoy! Cheers! Manas
hey Socks, nice to meet u here.U got roses on ur cheek today. How is ur girl treating u then? Hope she doesn't pick on u like a bruiser(just kidding lol)Well,I bet u r a nice and considerate kitty coz u love ur girl so much.U are versatile as well for as I know, animals don't even know what computer is,let alone blog. There u are,the smartest cat in the universe!Due to being a newcomer,I'm not so familiar with stuff here so I have no idea how ur sister look like, but I bet she is as cute and gorgeous as u r.Being practical and sensible can be a lot of benefits as I see.By the way,did u ask for fish as ur reward for blogging?lol.Besides, being fully aware of the importance of keeping clean and independent can be really important and critical to u coz no pet-owners like to be messed up by the dirty and rebellious animals. As for ur plan,I got something to say.U r smart for sure but u didn't take ur girl's feelings into consideration coz u would never know how hopeless and worried she was.U just left without a trace and reappeared out of the blue.U better not do that again never.I bet that's what ur girl wanna say too.Be good!well,I guess I might as well make a short introduction of myself to u my cute friend and ur girl of course. As an ordinary college student majoring in English,I feel pretty proud of myself coz I finally made up my mind to learn English well and go on my own way through hard work and active attitude. With regard to the reason why I chose English as my major,it's very easy.First of all, learning English well can be of a lot of advantages which will contribute to the development and improvment of ur career and life.By communicating with ppl across the world,u can learn a lot about the tradition and culture of their countries.what's more,it's really an effective way to improve and enhance ur oral english. Why not be confident and active?Above all, speaking good english requires confidence, passion, diligence, and the most important interest!owing to having great interests in learning english,I feel I got so much to learn and it's a long tough but enriching process to get to the level u want.I'm crazy about learning english. However, tbh,I'm kind of lazy and idle. But i will try to get rid of this bad habit. Really ty for blogging here coz i can realy learn a lot and get happiness from the word u writes. by the way,as i know,'as busy as a bee'can be replaced by'working one's ass off'but i know it's too informal, right?lol.bruiser=bully? ty again for sharing with us.I guess i've been too talkative but that's me.I can't help it lol ok,have a nice day and take care then Socks.Remember me to ur girl!
Hi Socks you are so cute and really smart! I need to learn a lot from you as I am not as clever as you are! Reading your today's blog taught me how to handle in future! Jo, I've been reading your blogs for a while but never dared to send any comments for I know that my English is poor enough. Anyway, there's a first time or everything. I do really learn a lot from you and the BBC's. Thanks Claire
Hello, Socks! The day has finally come! You've been eagerly waiting for your turn with impatience, haven't you? You and your brother somehow don't look alike, I'm afraid. If you hadn't told me you and Panther were twin, I wouldn't have noticed. Anyway, you're cute and you look like having a black coat on! That's nice! Don't you think so? Socks, I feel pity for you're misfortune. Well, my advice is you should eat a lot and get bigger than the male cat! Oops, sorry. Ahem, don't go out by yourself and take someone stronger than him. What about Scratcy or Raffles? Aha! Smokey!? No! Oh, yes! Panther, beat him up and protect Socks from the bruiser! Go for it! How do you like my advice, Socks?
Hi Socks, You are cuter than Panther. I think Ana paula is hiding something. Isn’t it? You have got enough freedom to go around as you like. You must get some tricks from Jo and Richard to fight with your senior companions. Don’t worry about how strong they are. If you follow your masters’ advice you will bite them. Don’t allow Jo to take rest in the weekdays. We have to learn more from her as you learn. But unfortunately she will be with us next one week. I felt happy to see one man requested BBC to take Jo as a part time teacher. She may be with us as Stephen Keeler is doing. We are really enjoying and it’s very informative.
Hello Socks! Woooow!I can see that you are so gorgeous as the others tenants in Jo's house! You look very elegant, because your fur looks like a tuxedo. Don't worry too much about the bruiser. I'm sure that if you avoid him and try not taking notice of him, he will leave you alone. Give my regards to Jo, Richard, Panther, Scratchy, Raffles and Smokey. I hope that Jo get back ASAP
hello, my poor little socks.how the male black cat dare to beat up to you.you are so cute and cuddly, i think everyone want to be friends with you.what had happened between you?perhaps the main reason is you are so clever and pratical or you have a considerate owner.he must get jealous of you.maybe you have to have a talk with him and teach him how to become a cute, sensible cat and how to fawn on his owner. hope the relationship between you will get better.
Hi,socks its good to read about how you got what you have desired for. You are smart and sensible indeed. How is your twin sister? she she as smart as you.
Hey socks! My lovely cat saying hi to you from Turkey! We read your blog with him and liked it very much...We wished to have english as yours..and increased our efforts for it!We have a question about your blog..you wrote 'yours very properly' at the end...can you explain it to us a bit? is it like 'yours sincerely or regards' which is written at the end of the letters? Thank you so much from now!=)

Hi socks its pleasure to hear from you, you are indeed a very smart kitty and practical enough to know how to get things done. You fit the bill of saying that all good things come in small packages. I am so sorry to hear that you have been bothered my male cat from your neighborhood. Since you are such a smart and brilliant kitty why don't you be little more inventive and think some plan to play trick on him. Kitty I have an idea for you, next time when he tries to intimidate you, don't fight back him as he is physically stronger than you, you cannot win him over. All you got to do is go to Jo and explain to her about the situation you are in, ask for her favour to take you out of the situation otherwise threaten her to runaway again.
Hey Socks. It's really very easy. All you have to do is to hang a bell from his neck. So, you'll hear him from far when he came and you can avoid an encounter with such an ugly cat guy. In fact, the idea is not mine, is from some mice. Ask them the next time you cath one. Bye
Found your site in google, and it has a lot of usefull information. Thanx.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
