The Language of Love
We are all still waiting to hear from Lemlem!
As today is Valentine’s Day, I thought I would look at the language of love, in particular, the verbs and prepositions of love! Of course, you all know that when you are lucky enough to meet that special someone, you fall in love; if you are really lucky, you may fall in love at first sight! If you spend all of your time with your loved one, your friends may say that you are crazy about him or her. Take care here, because if you say that someone is driving you crazy, it means they make you really annoyed and angry! This is not a good phrase to use about your sweetheart!
Did you know that before you fall in love, you might fancy someone? This means that you like them a lot, and would like to know them a lot better! If you manage to get to know the person you admire, you can go out on a date, and hopefully, you will get on well. But, you may just have a crush on him or her, which means that your feelings may change in time… You can also fall out of love, and in this case, you may break up, or split up with your beloved (who then becomes your ex). But this is not a very good topic for Valentine’s Day! So if you have had an argument and fallen out, today of all days, you should try to make up with the person who is close to your heart. As the custom on Valentine’s Day is to send cards or flowers, you have the perfect excuse to forgive and forget whatever happened in the past, and make a fresh start!

Last time, I asked you to look for linking words. We use linking words to make our writing (a) more logical, and so (b) easier to read and understand. Linking words are like the “glue” that gives our sentences order and meaning. We will look at linking words again this week because they are so important.
Linking words answers
The words I used between sentences were:
interestingly, finally, lastly, however, to begin with, if, as
The words I used within sentences were:
and, but. also, however, on the other hand, similarly, perhaps, so, if, which, obviously
Enjoy the rest of Valentine’s Day! It's great to see you using the useful words in your comments! Let’s chill!
Best wishes
Samantha
Ps. Two of the words in the list below have the same meaning: sweetheart and beloved.
(1) What do we call words with the same meaning?
(2) Can you find any other words in the text with the same meaning as sweetheart?
(3) Why do we use these words?

Hi Samantha! First of all, I'd like to wish all of you many many possitive impressions in your relationships. It's very important to have a person who love you and you love her. Sometimes we forget about it, but the day like St. Valentines Day should remind us to show our love and care of the Second Half. So please, don't forget to celebrate this Day. Best wishes!
Hello Samantha. Here in Brazil our Valentine´s Day is celebrated in June 12th. It´s celebrated one day before St. Antony´s day ( the wedding saint). Mostly girls pray to St. Antony to find their soul mate. Some of them put the St. Antony´s image upside down untill they reach the goal to find the beloved person. It´s really interesting and sometimes funny. Poor St. Antony! It´s really nice to know how you celebrate Valentine´s Day. By the way I´ve heard that in February 14th friends give cards or send flowers to each other. Is that true? Regards.
Dear samantha! Reading your articles is my pleasure. I was able to learn various phrasal verbs through the excellent articles even though I had known most expressions. By the way. are you running any homepage or blog? if so, I'd like to know the address of the site, because I want to learn more. Thanks. My answer to your question ; 1) synonym 2) loved one 3) If the same words are often used in sentence, it will make readers bored.
Samanthna: Thank you so much for your blog about language of love on Valentine's day. I stay at home with because my boyfriend is not by myside.I really miss him but I don't feel lonely because all the family menmbers all here.haha~ It is very hard to maintain a relation no matter how sweet its start. But I still find myself is happy girl.Hope we will get on well.
hi, Samatha, thank you for this new arcticle on language of love.I would like to ask you a question on the meaning of the phrase "chill out", though you have written in the last eassy, I still could not understand what "stay chill" mean. Does it mean to stay cool?
Hi everybody, I really enjoy reading this blog, especially today's one where the two phrases I could use in my recent situation. I have fallen out with my friend for some unknown reason and we hate each other's guts for quite a while, but now, I think I should learn how to forgive and forget and make a fresh start with her and being friens again. Am I correct using the above phrases? Regards
Hi Samanatha, It’s wonderful to learn the love related languages. Can love make the languages wonderful? Or languages speak the love beautiful? When we feel it’ll be more fantastic and crazy. Words, expressions can’t limit the fragrance of love. I am away from my home for my work purpose. I know that my wife was very much expecting me to be with her yesterday. But I couldn’t. She was very angry. She angrily said that you are not stable in your love. You are not as you were before marriage. Even though we are celebrating 14th Feb. as special day for love, we shouldn’t restrict the celebrations of love with in day itself. Love is everlasting one. If we are ready to share and sacrifice anything we have, every day will be joy and fun. I attended the mass in the church yesterday evening. Luckily the lovers was not intruding there I hope. But the sermon which the priests deliver was full love. I liked it very much. The miracle can happen any where, any time, and any person when the feelings and emotions are united between people.
That's right Ana Paula, poor Saint Antony and what is worst he should preferably stay upside down immersed in holy water! In fact, he is my patron Saint and when I was in Italy I went to Padova just to visist his tomb. And it was interesting to see that his larynx, a relic of the cathedral, is still intact. Apparently, he was a great orator. Just out of curiosity, did you know that his real name was Fernando and he was a Portuguese noble? Touching his tomb was quite touching really! However, my trip to Padova was not because I was DESPERATE to get married cause at that time I'd already been a DESPERATE HOUSEWIFE for 11 years. Just kidding! I'm still happily married to my beloved hubby to whom I fell in love at first sight. I say that I hunted him and since then ha kept him on a short leash (naughty me). Well as for the anwers to your questions, here they come:a) synonyms ( tricky word to write) b)Loved, beloved c) We use synonyms to avoid repetition something which would improve the style of the text. Cheerio,Monica
Hi,Smantha I am sure you got some Valentine's cards from your sons but I didn't get any from my son. As soon as he got home my son asked me to close my eyes. While I was closing my eyes I could hear him search something from his school reading bag.A few minites later he said I could open my eyes and see what he got.It was a lovely handmade Valentine's card.He asked me what I thought of it so I answered it is beautiful and asked him with a high expectation. "Is it for me?". do you know what he said "Nooo,it's for my daddy".he is really mean, is't he? the good news is I've already forgiven and forgot and we've made a fresh start. I fell in love with him at first sight and I am crazy about him every minute. He is my sweetheart, darling and beloved. by the way,I've made another unbearable mistake in cyber- class I don't know what I was thinking when I read and answered your task.It is very tempting but in this case, I'll save my answers and check them tomorrow.Once bitten, twice shy! by now
Dear Samantha! You are a good teacher for us. I can´t still read your blogs and all comments daily. What a pitty! I have a bit demaged my spin by clearing the snow at the end of January. The snow is long away and there are comming days like the spring. My recovering will last till the end of this month. But I learn much from you useful grammar explanations and hope one day I don´t make mistakes.
Hi Hyoshil. I'm curious to know where you are from.Sorry about my ignorance but where is Lincon in the Globo? Cheerio PS This blog is so nice that we can even learn Geography.
Hi Samantha, It's a pity lemlem couldn't stay with us. I'm sure he's got good reasons for that, because the opportunity to be with you in the blog is not one anybody would give up, if not for a good reason. I like your blogs more everyday. As Ana Paula and Monica mentioned, here in Brazil, Valentine's day is celebrated in june. And we usually give it a romantic meaning only, different from yours there, as I've heard, because you celebrate friendship in general, don't you? I'd like to answer your questions: the first one is synonym. The second one can be loved or valentine(I'm not sure about this one, can it be used as beloved?). And the third one is to avoid repetition. Best wishes. Bye for now.
Dear Samantha, I haven't seen your Feb 15th blog yet. Every day early morning my first job at my work is reading your blog. How are your today? The answers for your last blog are 1)synonym(noun) 2) love one.3) To avoid of using same word over and over we use synonym. Earlier I sent a comment for your last blog, but it didn't appear on the comment bage. I think this will appear on the comment page.
Dear Samantha, I learned vert much from your love language. This article reminded me that a teacher tell us English can express things or emotion more clear using different word or sentence than Chinese. This article makes me agree more about that. I miss very much my girlfriend because she is not with me now. I miss her not because This special day but I can't stand with the lonely feeling. To meself, Valentine's day is not as different as the other days. You needn't to wait this day to showing your love, sometimes you have to grab the chance as it came or you might lost it. Still, I still have to prepare someting for her anyway. She care this "meaning" days quite a lot. :) And 2 days later it is our Chinese New Year, I wish we all can be happy and healthy this year. Siecerely wishes ~
Hi'Monica I am not sure I am allowed to answer your question, but I would like to say where Lincoln is. Lincoln is located in central England on the eastern side. Have a good weekend!
Hello everybody! Hi Monica. I sent a comment to you yesterday answer your commet, but I think it was missing. My computer is a little lazy I´m trying to fix it. Anyway, thanks for mentioned about the holy water. I´ve completly forgotten. And yes, I´ve known about St. Antony´s real origins. He is my mother´s patron too. It´s really amazing tha his larynx is intact. I had the opportunity to see it when his relics came to São Paulo. Regards.
Hello everybody!I love this page becouse I can here learning english in wonderfyll way. Best wishes. :)

This is a very interesting place to learn and improve your language. It is also a virtual room to interact with other people from different countries.I find the vocabulary very rich and constructive that would help not only someone who is studying english as a second laguage but also someone who is fluent.Man learn from everything even we can learn from babies.
today is V-day,just wanna say Boys and Girls lets cheers .
Hi Samantha! We have a special day called Valentine's day. I thinks love is sacrifice whatever and hope for the better things! Now i'm thinking about the story i've ever read, its name is "The gift of the MAGI" - the man and the woman in this case they sacrifice the best worth property they have to Second Half :-) ... I love the love!!! :-)

Hi,Samantha, Thank you for your entry about language of love. We also celebrated Valentine's Day in Vietnam. It's oppertunity to display of affection. My wedding is coming soon. And I'm happy now. Take care!
First of all, it's real pleasure to read your blog. Secondly, there are answers: 1) synonyms; 2) 'special someone', 'loved one'; 3) to make our speech more intersting, expressive and precise.
Hi, Samantha, I don't celebrate St. Valentine's day beause I think is only a big bussines. I think we should show our love every day.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
