Our House
I don’t have the software you’ve got, Soyoung, and I think my camera (or my photographic skills) may not be as good as yours. However, here are a few photographs I took at home this morning (28th January 2007). Is this what you imagine a British house is like inside? I have no idea whether our house is typically British or not. Let me know what you think? What surprised you? What did you expect and not expect to see? What do you think are the main differences between my house and yours?

The kitchen.

A shelf of some of my little treasures from various parts of the world.

More treasures. There are wood carvings from Russia and Sweden and the Czech Republic, a bear from Berlin, a knife from France and bottles of ink from Italy.

The living-room.

Part of the dining-room, with pictures from China.

The hall stairs. I bought the poster in Paris three or four years ago.

The bathroom.

Lucy, pretending to be hard at work in her room.

A shelf of Lucy's little treasures, including a small steamboat from Stockholm and some matrioska dolls from Russia.

Good afternoon, Stephen. I imagined your home completely different from that because I was with the house of the "Remains of the Day" (movie) in my mind. I was expecting a majestic clock in the living or dining room, long corridors and shady or moody pictures. I didn't expext the pink colour of the curtains in the kitchen. I loved it. Does that pink cup belong to Lucy? I liked the green and blue colours in the bathroom. Your house is really wonderful. You have style.
Whether your house is typically British or not I can't say, but it is really beautiful and looks very comfortable. There is however one thing that strikes me as very British: I mean the separate taps for hot and cold water in your bathroom. I visited Britain last autumn and I just like 30 years ago I didn't find one mixed tap wherever I went. Why is that? Can anybody tell me? All the best, Christine
Stephan and Soyoung, hi, I've been reading all your blogs from the very start, but was too shy to comment... Hey, thank you, guys, for your blogs, especially thank you, Stephan for the kind humour and enthusuasm you have in your blogs. How you support Soyoung and care for her! I could feel it in every blog. Good for you. And you, Stephan, have a very lovely house, you do! I've been to Great Britain once 10 years ago and I do think yours is a lovely sample of a typical British home. It does look very cosy and smart. I liked the pink curtains in the kitchen very much and also all your treasures. Sorry for the banality, but this home is loved by the host. And thank you both for the love stories, which are very moving. Stephan, can you please tell me about teh rules of the February blogging competition? When are they on the site? I can't find them out. Ilive in Krasnoyars, Siberia. It's on the Transsiberian Railway. Stephan, you said that you've been in Siberia, right? Have you been to Krasnoyarsk? It's a city between Irkutsk and Novosibirsk. best wishes to both of you, Olga, Siberia, Russia
Hi every one ! How are you today ? What a clean and tidy house ! Well done ! Keep your chin up ! I’m a work woman , so my flat at the most time is very untidy and it takes about one hour to tidy flat , every day ! I love plants , you have lots of them in your house .But I like to see your personal room , your bookcase ( numerous rows of different books ! ) ,your desk ( for seeing a writer desk ) and etc . Also I’d like to see your garden in the day light , Because I love to have a little and green garden . Last day I have a terrible experience , newly I have been took an English course ( My level is PI 1 ) . It was the first time that I do an English course , our teacher looked to be very nice , but she had said not to talk in Persian , but last day we did a course with our group partner for the first time , and we have little time for doing it and a bit stressed , so we forgot to talk in English , so It made she very angry and she said if we speak in Persian again she will not pass all of us to upper level . I depressed very much so , I want to cry after class . I didn’t think she was so serious . Have a nice weekend ! bye
Dear teacher! I have heard a saying, which says that a house become a home when it shelter the body and calm the soul.In that terms you should entitle you post:'Our home'. I am pretty sure (and maybe most of readers will agree with me) that your house is a real home. It looks as if it is full of memories. I suppose every detail is meaningful and remembers about interesting moments of your life. Luxurous and expensive things don't create cosiness themselves. The cosiness depends on the spirit of people who live in the house. Your home seem to me very comfortable and lighted. And it really can calm the soul. Diema
It's typically a british house. it looks very neat, tidy, well organised and beautiful inteed. I never visited any british houses in britain. but I had a chnce to see the houses of some of britishers living in India. They want to maintain orderliness in their living places. The atmosphere in the Photo in side the house itself looks very beatiful.
Stephen, what a lovely house you have! That looks very cosy too, don´t you think? The treasures are very interesting! Do you have one for each contry you have visited? What´s your favourite one and why? Best wishes
wow, stephen, your house is so cosy and beautiful, and has its character. don't be angry with me, but i heard englishmen are not too orderly (in comparison with germans, i guess) and their homes are really messy. you seem to be different don't you?
Hi Stephen, I'm glad to see the photoes of your house. So beautiful!! In your dining-room, there are some pictures you said you bought in China. Do you still remember where you bought them? In Xi'an or Beijing or other cities? Lucy's steamboat is so cute, did you buy it for her or you go to Stockholm together? By the way, your house is very very clean and tidy. Wish you happy!
Hi Stephen, I just want to add to what our fantastic readers have already said, that I like the poster you bought in Paris - the whole composition at the hall stairs is perfect! Have a great day!
