The weather and my moods
Hi
I've woken up this morning to a beautiful blue sky and bright sunshine, the first day without smog for over a week. I don't know if it's my British origins (we are obsessed by the weather probably as it changes so much in the UK) but I'm very sensitive to changes in the weather and my mood can easily be affected. On a day like today, I'm full of optimism and feel generally happier.
One of the reasons that I came to Malaysia all those years ago was that I wanted to live in a tropical country. I actually love this weather and although I occassionally miss seasons like Spring and Autumn (my favourite), I never miss winter, my most hated season. I'd rather feel hot than cold anyday!
It's actually very convenient to live in a tropical country, as we need only one type of clothing and an umbrella. I enjoy the freedom from boots, coats, raincoats, scarves, jumpers etc.
How do you feel about the weather? Does it affect your mood?
Chittisa, were you affected by the changeable weather in UK? How did you cope? /b>

Hello! The attitude to the weather depends on our point of view. In my opinion, people who live in four season areas should be happy and blessed.Mountains and oceans are so different during the autumn and spring. Nature changes every day in autumn. I am fascinated by colourful trees in the broad-leaved forest. The only thing I hate are fogs in autumn. My town is situated near big river so fogs are frequent occurrence during that season. But I have been living here for many years and got used to them.I used to feel depressed when was younger but my experiances thought me how to control myself. The phsychologists maybe have explanation about depressions during autumn and winter - air pressure, the lack of sunshining etc.Externel causes always exist. But we are rational being who can rule ourselves. Now I am glad to live in a country with temperate climate. So the changeable weather can inspire you if you don’t think negatively. What I like to do in foggy days is to paint, build towers and garages with my children.Such days give me pleasure of longer communicattion with them.We visit our neighbours for a cup of coffee at the afternoons. That is what I think.I am looking forward to reading your opinion. PS. I’ve read somewhere that there are 12 words fod fog in English. Could someone mention the more commonof them?
Hi Hope you returned your good mood after your redecaration in the house and smell of the fire out side the house. Today you enjoy the climatic conditon. In India we enjoy only the winter season. it also very short peroid. We have lengthiest period of summer almost through out the year we feel the hot. Definetly the weather plays important role for our work and living.
Hi Tricia Thank you very much for your blog´s entrances. I look for it every day and reading BBC blogs is my everyday’s pleasure. In your yesterday´s blog you wrote about smog. What is the origin of this smog ? is it like fog? In my belief is Malaysia the country with hot seaside, daily nice weather – kind of a dream on earth. I am from a country, where the seasons change regularly and with big difference between seasons. Now finished time with cold mornings but still sunny and warm afternoons - we call it gassamer or Indian summer, but the weather-forecast is one of the most watched programms for planning activities and enjoying every day before true autumn. After that it will be cold rains with icing, fogs, dark and very short days and as we call all souls´days. I hate it ! My nightmare is when I wake up and I visualize getting up and feeling when I open the house door at this time. Brrrr! Of course after that I must quickly go away to my bus stop, as I am usually late ! Good luck to you Vĕra
Hello Tricia, I also live in a tropical country and I don`t have much experience with heavy winter, but I have to say that I, as opposed to you, enjoy the winter more than the summer. But I agree that spring is a lovely season, for the flowers and mild temperatures. I also have to say that the weather does affect my mood. I usually feel depressed and feel like doing nothing when the weather is cloudy and the day is dark. But I try to keep in mind that it's just temporary and so is this horrible state of mind. Let me say that I love to read your blog and the tips you give us on the usage of the English laguage. I always have problems when finishing a message. I want to say something that can bring me closer to the person I'm addressing instead of the formal expressions we usually learn. Perhaps you could give us some advice on that and some suggestions. Thank you bye bye.
You are really lucky to enjoy the tropical weather. I have beard hot summer and chill winter even sadstorm in Beijing since I began my study here seveal years ago.
Hello Tricia! I totally agree with you about the effect of weather on the mood. Sometimes I think perhaps the weather affects some chemical subtances in our bodies(Erm..Maybe it's too serious to mention the biology :p) You know When I studied in the UK,I always drew the picture of sun with the clear sky on my papers and wrote down that "my glamorous sky" below the picture. It really worked for cheering me up when I was in the cloudy sky there
hi, tricia. i am a chinese. i have been learning English from bbc for about 3months.it is just a wonderful website that nearly every day i will take 3hours on it.i like to read your blog and it can give me a lot of help .usually i will write down the word that i can't understand and look it up in the dictionary. can i ask you a question? could you tell in what situation we can use "have been"such as the begining of your blog"i have woken up this morning" i don't know how to use it.but i usually see the sentence like it. thank you.
hello ,it's my first time to reach here.I have a question about salutation ,or greeting .my idea is to happen to meet the acquaintance and say hello at the restaurant ,is it a greeting or another word ? thanks
Hi Tricia, Like you I'm very sensitive to changes in the weather and it does have a strong effect over my mood. I live in Brazil, like Mauricio, and as our country is huge the climate varies pretty much from region to region. The place where I live in, Mato Grosso -right in the middle of the country-, is considered to be one of the hottest, some days are actually unbearably hot, boiling really. When the days are particularly hot I feel lethargic and sluggish , don't even feel like getting dressed, if I could I'd walk around, stark naked.Well, lucky me, the worst season our winter and autumn, which is dry and hot, is nowover. The current season, spring, brings not only hot , beautiful bright days, clear blue skies but also heavy, tropical rains to cool us down. Yesterday, after a couple of hat days, we had a good portion of rain which cleaned the streets and made the birds, trees and me happy. The smell of wet ground is ace, don't you think so? By the way, I know England and love the glommy weather there. Probably because it is so different from what we have here. Cheerio,
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
