Hole 15 at Oakland Hills
400 yards, par four

Ken Brown
By Ken Brown
BBC TV golf commentator

It is best to be bold and take on the fairway bunker on this hole.

A right to left dog-leg, the sand is smack bang in the middle of the fairway, 245 yards from the tee.

It will take a 260-yard shot to clear it and by using a driver it is possible to hit the ball over the hazard or go left or right, where there is about 20 yards to play with.

It is also possible to hit a two-iron and leave an eight- or seven-iron to get up to the green.

But the putting surface is full of little pimples that can send a long shot in all directions so it is a good idea to take on the bunker because in order to get to this flag a short approach is required.

That said, I think you will see most players opt for an iron, pitch on and hope for a lucky bounce.
