Hole 1 at Oakland Hills
435 yards, par four

Ken Brown
By Ken Brown
BBC TV golf commentator

From the elevated tee, you look right down on the hole.

There is one big bunker on the right and three down the left.

The further you hit the tee shot the narrower the fairway gets and the ball will also kick to the right where the nasty bunker lies - it is definitely one to be avoided.

The first hole has a very much terraced green - there are four areas where you can cut the flag, but all are tricky.

Despite a generous-sized green, it will be very difficult to get the approach shot close to the flag - wherever it is.

All in all, it is not a tough starting hole but you really need to find the fairway.
