Hole 11 at Oakland Hills
423 yards, par four

Ken Brown
By Ken Brown
BBC TV golf commentator

This is a shortish par four where there is a good chance of grabbing a birdie.

It is best to try to crack the tee shot over the humps and hollows on the fairway, although it is hard to predict where the ball will finish.

With three bunkers on the right which you can see the edge of from the tee, it is best to aim for the left where there is a flattish area.

If that is found then players will be confidently pulling a shortish iron from their bag before taking aim for a two-level gathering green.

Landing the ball safely is another problem altogether because of the slope - backspin on landing is likely to take the ball 20 yards away from the target area.

Having said all that, if you get a good tee shot on to the reasonably generous fairway then it does offer a birdie chance - but beware of that backspin.
