Ranked top Test batsman in the world following an extraordinary run of form from May 2002 until January 2003, Vaughan initially struggled to maintain that form as England captain.
The opener took charge of the side after Nasser Hussain's surprise resignation after the first Test against South Africa at Edgbaston and managed a top score of just 33 in the rest of the series against South Africa.
Bounced back to form in the first Test at Dhaka with scores of 48 and 81 not out and his captaincy there showed more imagination as he guided the team away from the potential banana skins of Bangladesh.
Vaughan is settling into the captaincy now although as a player it remains to be seen if he will ever be as consistent in one-day internationals as he is in Test matches.
He clearly enjoys the full support of his team-mates who have adjusted to his laid-back style - which is in stark contrast to his predecessor.
