But for a series of injuries Richard Johnson might already have established himself as a regular England bowler.

He was forced to withdraw from the 1995 tour to Australia after suffering a back injury and was also in the squad in 2001 against the same opponents and for the tour to India that winter, without making the field.

He finally made his England Test and limited-overs bows in 2003, taking 6-33 on Test debut against Zimbabwe, before a knee injury ruled him out of the series against South Africa.

With James Anderson, Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff all injured for the second Test at Chittagong, Johnson took nine wickets in the match to show he was more than a one-hit wonder.

In Sri Lanka, he was due only to play in the one-day series. But a prolonged injury to Harmison gave him another opportunity to impress.
