Right-hand batsman

FACTFILE
Nasser Hussain
DOB: 28.3.1968
Team: Essex
Test debut: v West Indies, Jamaica 1990
ODI debut: v Pakistan, Nagpur 1989

Hussain stunned the cricketing world by resigning as captain after England were outplayed by South Africa in the first Test of the recent series.

But, after much speculation, he settled into the role of reliable senior pro and his century at Trent Bridge was a major factor in England's fight-back.

Those used to an intense skipper scowling at mid-off found a more relaxed figure, and Hussain found more runs after admitting being mentally drained by the captaincy.

Calls for new blood will be resisted while Hussain's current good form continues.

And he will have happy memories of Kandy, where his century in 2001 set up a memorable win by England.
