Searching for winners from over 350 entries for the 'Radio and the Artist' competition was one of the most pleasurable and interesting things I've had to do lately. All entries were accompanied by 100 words on the role radio played in the conscious or unconscious working hours of each of the artists. Reading these were a delight, and the thought, that when we are all in our studios across the length and breadth of the country (and further afield) radio (mainly Radio 4) is with us all, is an encouraging and unifying experience. The standard was usually high from professional and amateur, and after separating out a shortlist of about 30, our final decision-making became very difficult. Congratulations to the winners and runners-up, and many more radio-fuelled hours of work in the future!
