"I have an intimate relationship with my radio. It speaks to me of secrets and strange science, and then it makes me laugh. It can be revelatory. When I'm painting it occupies the space in my mind not wrangling with intensely absorbing visual decisions. Amazingly, that space it engages with is able to involve itself with fresh and stimulating ideas that are independent of the painting I'm working on. Each day two journeys are made - one with the painting, another with my radio. Sometimes they connect with each other. "
