Despite more than 19,000 first class runs and over 60 centuries, Australia's selectors only recently ran out of reasons to ignore the South Australia left-hander. Lehmann made his Test debut against India in 1998, by which time he had played more first-class cricket and scored more runs than any Australian prior to winning a cap.
But he was dropped after five Tests and it was not until Mark Waugh was forced into retirement prior to the last Ashes series that another spot became available.
Since then, however, Lehmann has been unable to secure his place in the side, a leg infection ending his Ashes early and handing a chance to Martin Love.
Lehmann then suffered a five-match ban from one-day cricket for a racist outburst against Sri Lanka, and scored just two half-centuries during the World Cup.
