Nathan Hauritz
Nathan Hauritz
Born: 18/10/81
Team: Queensland
ODI debut: v South Africa at Johannesburg, 2001/02

Right-arm off-break bowler
Right-hand batsman

Hauritz is one of Australia's most highly accomplished young players and won a call to the World Cup following Shane Warne's failed drugs test.

Despite failing to win a cap during the tournament, the Australian selectors feel Hauritz is fit to fill his boyhood hero's boots.

The 21-year-old impressed in his five one-day outings in 2002, taking seven wickets against South Africa and Kenya.

As well as his accurate off-spin, Hauritz is a brilliant fielder and a useful lower-order batsman.

In his third appearance he came in at number 11 to join Jimmy Maher in a tense finale when the pair put on 36 off 29 balls to earn a tie against South Africa.

A string of consistent performances for Queensland this season helped him to 14 wickets in the Australian interstate one-day series.

And the former Australia under-19 captain was named Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year in January.
