Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

We decided to create this film due to being surrounded by students from across the world, and hearing stories about how they are coping in their new culture with having a partner in another country. When producing this film we thought we would find individuals who had problems with being so far apart from each other, but in the end the interviewees ended up explaining how it made their relationships stronger and found it special when they were reunited.

What motivated you to make this film?

By being surrounded by friends from around Europe we thought it would be interesting to find out how they cope with the distance and whether their relationships were still going strong even without seeing each other so much. We expected there to be flaws in the relationships with the distance being a major issue but were surprised with the answers we were given.

What equipment did you use to shoot the film?

Cameras: Panasonic HMC151 and Panasonic GH4. Sound recorder: Marantz PMD-661

Tell us about post-production.

We did the editing by ourselves. We used the software Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and sound mixing. We asked Kingsley McGregor to write an extra piece of music for our film.

What are your plans for the future?

We are all in our final year of our degree in Media Production, so after finishing our studies, all three of us will try and find a job in a suitable area within the media industry that we enjoy the most.

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

We realised it is hard to talk with people in front of a camera about such a personal topic. We found it difficult for our interviewees to feel comfortable enough to say how they are really feeling because they didn’t want to hurt their partner or become too emotional.
