Hassan worked with director Matt Maude to make a powerful film for the Writing Britain series.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

The dream is to become a professional writer, writing words with substance, no fairy tales

The first time I realised "Oh yeah, I’m a writer" was when I remembered who I really was. For me, writing is a way of expressing where I am, what is surrounding me, and the problems I see. I wanted to use this project to explore my passions about speaking about today’s problems in society. I always wanted to talk about where I live and how the lows and highs can affect you negatively or positively.

What motivated you to make this film?

The best part in this project was the anticipation. Coming in and being a part of it was amazing. Using that camera and the opportunity to work with professionals were the main reasons that made me come. This has made me more motivated to do more things, writing and make more films. Since making this film I can take it anywhere, show people that piece of work, tell people what I can do.

Who/what inspires you?

Everything inspires me basically, from the way that a flower can blossom to how a huge person walking down the street moves. Everywhere I look I see people, places, nature, I hear sounds and smells this all can trigger an inspiration for me to write.

What are your plans for the future?

The future? Just keep writing, writing, writing and see where it ends up! The dream is to become a professional writer, writing words with substance, no fairy tales. I hope my film and words will inspire others to change their mindset about who they are and what they can do.

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

The more time spent on the intricate little bits of what you create can become a bigger part of the project. It’s what brings your writing to life. Poetry is loved and respected by all kinds of races and genders. It can be used to communicate with people using hot topics of this day and age.
