Have posted on FB for the first time ever. In a bit of a panic now: Mastermind looms on Thursday. Any last minute questions on Number 1 chart singles 1963-2000 greatly appreciated. In my revision last night I was wading through the early 70s and what seemed like such an exciting time when I was 5-8 years old seems quite dull now. One Chinn/Chapman or Glam stomper record after another interspersed with Donny Osmond, David Cassidy and the New Seekers. Maybe it was hearing them all one after the other on a great Youtube link (all number 1s of the 70s!) that dulled me. I'm sure the Stock Aitken Waterman era was not much better...!



Without starting a row, one of the standout records when hearing them back in that early 70s era was 'I Love You Love Me Love' by Gary Glitter. It makes me mad that he's ruined that memory.

Many congratulations to Mr Murray - one had to wonder if it would ever happen. I suspect there may sell be more now that the first one has been achieved. Could I also suggest to PhilMewis (#14) that offering 'Englishman in New York' for a proud Scot is very bad form.



I don't think I can avoid casting my mind back to a very different focus on New York 11 years ago today and remembering that I was listening to Simon's Radio 5 programme at the time and heard the initial breaking story from there on that Tuesday afternoon. Let us all hope we never have to witness such events again.

I wasn't bothered by sleep deprivation as I'm a bit of a night-owl anyway, so although I went to bed at 2.45am because of waiting for the presentations, general chat and Andy Murray's interview with Annabelle Croft, John Lloyd etc, I was up and showered just before 7.30am, feeling pleased that I had watched Andy win, rather than hearing the result on the news!

That question for JiM. Every year listed had a total of 17 number one hits. The other year to do so, and missing from the list was 1972. Mastermindy, or what? (I didn't know this, but looked it up)

#78 Flo - I'm definitely a night owl but I have always struggled to get up in the morning regardless of how long I've been in bed. Mum used vacuum outside my door at the weekend in a vain attempt to get me up. I always thought I would grow out if it, start leaping out of bed in the morning. But sadly no, I still stay up too late & moan getting up in the morning.



Lots of 9/11 memories. Thanks for linking to the blog Zoe, obviously there I had read about Child 2's birthday party. I was at home on study leave. I turned on the radio when having a late lunch & heard Simon describing events. Mum & Dad were in Canada & it took me a while to get in touch with them. They were stranded over there for a week.



My dad died a few years ago. Murray winning made me cry last night as dad would have been over joyed; sport was the thing we had most in common. My first reaction is still to call him when something wonderful happens.



Before I started to post on the blog I read Simon bits but not the comments; the "ginger blog" made me laugh lots this afternoon, especially Lord Ammo telling you off.



Zoe - I am delighted you are going with Deebee to Wittertainment. You will have a wonderful time I'm sure. Wittertainment (as I'm sure I've said before) is always my favourite 2 hours of entertainment in the week. It is joyous & never fails to make me laugh. I just loved seeing the good doctors live & in glorious 3D.

#85 - can't please all the people................. Personally I like the 3 worders; they make me wonder about what is happening to those people as they can be quite puzzling sometimes and also amusing. The confessions are fun as well - not all as funny as each other, but you wouldn't expect them to be, would you?

And as for upsetting Roman Catholics........??



But the clincher for me was that he/she enjoyed listening to Vine........must be something wrong there!!



And Shona, I think it is Jeffrey of Maidenhead that is the Mastermind contestant but I have been wrong before!!

#69 - John,I read your post ending "there was a lot more energy and lively chat in those days...." Do you think it is because many of the then regular bloggers have had 'real life' interferring with their blogging and simply can't contribute as they used to, for whatever reason? Even the bloggers who contribute now, have work commitments and are not able to post as much as they would like.



Also, there has been a lot going on - 'lympics, paralympics, sunny weather, festivals etc etc distracting folk from this 'ere blog. ;0)



Those of us who can blog, do, but responses are not as rapid as they used to be and the impetus sort of peters out, I feel - but nevertheless, this is still the best blog for help and support when it is needed and general chat about the world in general.



So I suppose the message is - KEEP ON BLOGGING! I love being part of it.
