Morning all



Gretchen Peters was stunning last night. Beautiful voice, beautiful songs, and perfect, understated accompaniment from Barry Walsh on piano, accordion and glockenspiel, and Chistine Bougie on lapsteel, guitar, snare drum, shakers and bass footstomp. So good was it that I actually had to deal with watery eyes on a couple of occasions which never happens to me (well, once before at a Yes concert).



Gretchen seems genuinely gobsmacked at the success of this album and tour, and thanked Radio 2 for their support. "On the playlist alongside Paul McCartney? That just doesn't happen!" Well, if there has to be a playlist it should happen, and it did :-). Simon got a namecheck with the Charlie Watts story before they finished with Wild Horses which was well accompanied by us. The main set was closed with "To Say Goodbye" from the "Burnt Toast" album, which was perfect as it's just about my favourite song of Gretchen's.

#34 Rain? Not here; it's gorgeous. Woke up to a frozen car and temperature of -3 but the sun is now shining in a clear blue sky. Good to be alive weather.



I think I'll spend the weekend in the garden with the hose pipe on full ;0)

I've been given an easter egg containing those light chocolate covered honeycomb chocolates that sound like they were made by folk from Malta and it's in a nice red box, so my first suggestion is:

In turn that reminds me of when I was a kid and would receive an Easter Egg from my gran under the strict proviso that I wasn't allowed to eat it until Easter Sunday. Being a kid I couldn't possibly wait that long, so I'd carefully dismantle the packaging and painstakingly remove the foil off the egg and extract the goodies inside, before making it all look good again and piecing it all back to make it look like i hadn't touched it. Congrats to Alex on the contract, I heard yesterday tea time that I have a new contract, a 3 month rolling one to cover maternity leave, I had the interview on Tuesday. I start a week on Monday. It is the shortest time between contracts which I am thoroughly grateful for, it is £1 a hour less but I can live with that!

Good afternoon all - very late today. The computer doctor has been to try and sort out why our PC seems to be related to the snails in the garden - even they look speedy in comparison sometimes! We now have 2 of everything in the study so it's a bit of a squeeze, to say the least. Apparently we need to find out if it is the computer or Broadband which is playing up so we are playing an elimination game for a few days.

If you want to see a playlist that is differnt to the norm, you should listen to Janice Long from Sundays - Thursdays as she often plays several songs not normally heard these days and likes her listeners to choose songs and she seems to be very knowledgeable and plays new and old tunes.



One night a couple of weeks ago she was in London and a group of guys approached her and asked if she was Janice Long and when she said she was, one of them handed her a CD of their music and that night she played one of their songs on her show and she has often played new stuff before anyone else... and she seems a lovely friendly person too.



Shame she's on late at night and too late for people who have to be up early in the mornings!

Super morning - went to agricultural supplier and bought 2 lovely wooden gates to replace horrid galvanised gates and some poultry fencing, then to builders merchant to buy wood and guttering for the henhouse, then ordered concrete for delivery next week to create the slab for the summer house and then ordered the summer house. Loads of money out the door but we will look so smart!



Hurrah for 3 hours of Drivetime! I have just realised that the new job means:



Positive: money coming in



Negative: No Drivetime, no blogging, no being at home during the day



So tomorrow will be my last dose of Simon for a while. :(
