Major preparations in our house for World Book Day, as the daughter wants to better her ladybird costume from last year. So new duffle coat, wellies, small brown suitcase, and marmalade have now been acquired, as well as a large black hat. Can you tell who she's going as?

Pintails, Shoveller ducks (impressive beaks) Godwits, Curlews (both also with mighty impressive beaks) Brent Geese, Redshanks, Cormorants, Teal, Wigeon, not to mention the usual every day sightings.



Still waiting for the excitement of the first sandmartins to arrive.

I have just ordered the Kindle version of Simon's book for an extra pressie for my avid reader husband's birthday, only £6.45 too! After reading the reviews on Amazon, it sounds like it will be a change from his Wilbur Smith, James Patterson, Ian Rankin type books and I might just take a peep too!



MTF, you're like me and love the seabirds and especially the variety of birds who gather along the shoreline, and I love seeing Curlews and Oystercatchers in the field in front of our house sometimes or in the local park. Just as you're waiting for the sand martins, at this time of the year we eagerly await the return of the beautiful gannets and already there are quite a few on the Bass Rock as you can see from this live webcam, but before long, there will be thousands of Gannets returning to breed and the rock will be covered with them.

We have the Scottish Seabird Centre at our local harbour with several webcams on the Bass Rock, Isle of May, Craigleith and Fidra islands that can be operated in the centre by visitors and it's always exciting to see the seals on the Isle of May.

hi all i couldnt post last night had a pink box refusing me to make comments



still havent got the prepaid card hope it comes before satuday as i need 2 give my prestription in 2 days before i need new tablets,and i got another blood text thing next tuesday and i can pick my tablets up then.my tablets run out next wednesday.

Brilliant gig last night at the Islington Academy. When a band is so brilliant as Kathleen Edwards' band is, live music is just about the best thing there is. Deebee, the venue is easy to find, right out of Angel tube, v short walk up Upper Street, entry to N1 "shopping Centre" is between some shops on the other side of the road, opposite a big pub. Entry to Academy 1 is ground floor, Academy 2 on 1st floor.



Just back from the doctors, having been unable to shake off what feels like a chesty cough for 3 weeks. Doctor listens to chest, then proceeds to tell me that although they listen to the chest, non-smokers rarely get chest infections so he knew it would be clear (it was) and I have the most common cause of a persistent cough.



Result: Ken leaves doctors with tail between legs and feeling as though doctor's time has just been wasted!

I didn't have time to blog yesterday, because twin two's assessment period at the hospital has come to an end, so we were preparing for his homecoming, and making the arrangements for his return to school etc.



How thoughtful of Simon, to offer up a mini-blog on his big day, but then that's the kind of top bloke he is. I hope all goes well for the book launch, and that it's a big success (but not so much that he turns full-time writer and leaves Drivetime...)



Heads up for anyone interested, and near a TV - Simon is on the Alan Titchmarsh show this afternoon on ITV1 between 3 - 4pm, I suppose it will be available on ITV player later, for those at work, or otherwise engaged.

Sorry to those of you still having problems posting.



It seems the green and pink boxes are also causing frustration for people commenting on some of the BBC's news blogs. It looks like the same issue, but we still don't know why it's happening.



Frustratingly, every time we test the issue through our 'test blog', it works fine.



And because the issue is so intermittent, it is proving difficult to track down what's going wrong (despite your bug reports, all of which we've reviewed and are most grateful for).



Thanks again for your patience - there are a couple of people working on this as we speak.

MTF- sorry I can't break the habit- should I just call you Sal? ;-) I thought of you this morning when I walked down into the fields to see to my chickens and pony. At 5.45 the owls (little and tawny's) were competing with the robins, blackbirds and my cockerel for best soloists in the dawn chorus. Absolutely magical it was. As we have said before, the sound of blackbirds singing at this time of year is just the best. Hope you spot the sand martins soon.



I have been incredibly busy this week at work, usual end of month stuff, and the weekend is looking hectic too, both children back from Uni as it is my daughters 20th on Saturday! I know, I look far too young!! ;-) Her actual due date was 29th, but she stayed put as we moved house that day, and obliged us all by arriving 3 days later!



Now after typing all that, let's see if I get one of these green/pink boxes..........

I've just heard of the death of Davy Jones from The Monkees and it has saddened me.

I wasn't a fan of The Monkees but I feel sad hearing Davy Jones has passed away so suddenly. I have copied these comments from his fellow band members from an American friend who is a member of a forum for Gary Puckett.



From Micky Dolenz – “I am in a state of shock; Davy and I grew up together and shared in the unique success of what became The Monkees phenomena. The time we worked together and had together is something I'll never forget. He was the brother I never had and this leaves a gigantic hole in my heart. The memories have and will last a lifetime. I have news of my Mum - she has had the operation, the hospital phoned about an hour ago and said she was back on the ward and doing well. I'll try and speak to her tomorrow morning before I leave for work. Thanks once again to everyone who's sent well wishes - it's a real comfort and so lovely to have all your support!

My husband is 12 years younger than me – I seduced him – by the way – so he was too young to have experienced The Monkees first time around – but I wasn’t – and I was there to watch their TV shows – how funny, zany, anarchic, inventive, warm and friendly!



Actually there was a show, which wouldn’t be allowed now, where, at the end, they “out” a Cameraman – and another show in which they “mince” “Deck The Halls”!



But they covered all topics – misunderstandings, insecurity, prejudice, lovelessness.

How nice to have a toyboy husband! Mine is two years older than me so I've no idea what it must be like having someone 12 years younger, but as 'generally' (not always) men seem to die at a younger age than women, I'm sure than you and he will stand a better chance of growing old together, especially if you were around here, where there seems to be an abundance of elderly ladies, including a large group of veteran lady golfers who are all over 80-years of age and play regularly!

i havent been swimming for years i did go in the pool when on holiday but just chilling out,when i was younger i used 2 go to the swimming baths every week in watford and when i first went the people round the pool (lifegards)were george micheal and andrew ridgley before thay became wham,i remember george as he had girly hair then and wore tight shorts,he also worked in the local cinema as well.



i havent sorted my tablets out yet i might go and put my prescribtion in the box 4 the doctor on satuday and collect on tuesday when i have another jab done,just hope my prepaid card arrives by then.



i just looked up davy jones and he was ena sharpels grandson in corrie.



am i the only person who thinks people who do reality shows thinks thay are now experts on things,like doing a cook book etc...because thay were in a cooking show.



when you see a show and it says celebrity on it when are the celebrities comming on all you see is the same fame hungry people z listers

Billie - message received. I think, like most people on here, we read a lot that we don't always comment on. But over the course of time it all add to the rich tapestry of blogland as we paint pictures of each other's events and thoughts and opinions and feelings. (Sorry to mix my metaphors)



Anyway, lovely sunny day, happy March and happy St David's Day everyone. (Confession - I've only been to Wales once. But I've only been to Scotland once, and Ireland once - but not NI - so there's no special bias!)
