Don't believe a word
What Ho! Greetings from the (still neglected and mangy fox-ridden) estate which I will see precious little of this week. Hope all good with bloggers out there. I'm spending a day talking to assorted local radio folk about the book. I used to be at BBC Radio Nottingham and know what an important job local radio does. Thing is I only get 10 minutes with each, which means I barely get to swap humorous show biz anecdotes with each host before time is called. I trust they will be gentle. Then it's the Richard Bacon show on 5 Live and the return of the book panel that was my creation; books, author, and 2 reviewers. This time I get the grilling and I can feel my stomach tightening already. Who had this stupid idea in the first place? Oh right...
And eventually to R2 where Drivetime offers its usual stuff plus Guardian journalist Jonathan Freedland pretending to be Sam Bourne, his pseudonym when being a best selling author. Always enjoy reading and speaking to Jonathan, one of our outstanding reporters and, increasingly, one of our outstanding thriller writers. His latest is "Pantheon", a story rooted 'in one of the best kept secrets of the Anglo-American wartime elite' which actually makes it sounds less exciting than it is. Sam/Jonathan from 6 tonight.
And oldies please on the subject of EXERCISE. Tonight's Horizon on BBC2 claims you only have to do three 20 second bursts of intense exercise three times a week to feel the benefits. Wow. 3 mins a week? Don't believe it for a minute but let's run with EXERCISE for some tunes tonight.
Now I won't be on the show tomorrow (little book launch to attend) but will be back on Thursday.
Have a tip-top and not ho-hum Tuesday. See you after 5.

Liza Tarbuck is sitting in tomorrow - she mentioned it when she was doing ARF a couple of weeks ago to one of her callers, who'd said they loved hearing her on the radio. I wondered at the time if it would be something to do with Simon being off to promote his book. Richard Allinson tweeted a couple of days ago that he had flu (poor lamb!) so he probably wouldn't have been able to do it anyway.

Apologies for my absence. Been busy busy with country living.
The paddock birds are still unidentified and I am unable to find my bird book cos Ziggy has moved all the boxes in the garage. On the nature theme, we do have 2 fat rabbits in the paddock, keeping the pheasant and unidentified birds company. We also seem to have moles burrowing under the Captain Jack Memorial Patio which is most annoying. And then we found a dead rat in the water butt. (Ziggy has removed it).
Over the gloriously sunny weekend, we finished the paths in the veg garden (35 bags of shingle), cleared the area where the greenhouse is going and moved the potato bins. Yesterday was garden centre for seeds, fertiliser etc. Home grown veg is on the menu! A bit more than the allotted 3 minutes of exercise - will try to sit still for the rest of the week!

I'm assuming, although I haven't seen the programme, that some scientist has done her/his research and s/he has reached an evidence based conclusion to support the notion that 3 x 20 second bursts of exercise, 3 times a week is all we need. If not, why is it on Horizon? And yet, because Simon is a regular at the gym, he can't bring himself to believe that he's been wasting his money all these years and the conclusions can't be correct.
So, let's take our lead from Simon's blog today. Perhaps we could all list the things we resolutely dis/believe despite evidence to the contrary?

I have just got home from having a quick lunch with a friend at a local hostelry and it's 17 degrees outside and feels quite warm considering the abundance of snowdrops and crocuses as well as quite a few daffs around, so I hope it's nice wherever bloggers are.
I called at the garage on my way back and treated myself to some cookies and cream ice cream that's softening nicely, ready for me to tuck in with a teaspoon! I wish I had more willpower to scoop some out into a dish rather than eat it out of the tub! ;o)
Love 'Drop the Pilates' and 'Treadmill be the Day'! :o))

I do read the blog, even though I don't get much time to play on here these days.
Haven't given anything up for Lent; Mr from Eastleigh has given up tomatoes and cheese (he doesn't eat either and always makes it his New Year's resolution not to do so).
Take care, Alison x

Ziggy and his mate have just about done the garage roof - hurrah! No more water pouring onto our boxes.
Had a lovely afternoon of pottering. The seed potatoes are now chitting away in the cat litter tray (one that is obviously not in active use. That would be yucky). The earth the moles piled all over the patio has been moved. Good chat with the neighbour over the fence which led to us both poking round our gardens with bamboo canes, trying to find the mole runs so that we could test Alan Titch's deterrent (flooding). Our moles just seem to make piles of earth - we couldn't find a run anywhere. Glad we couldn't be seen - 2 middle aged ladies poking holes in their gardens whilst muttering madly about "bloody moles". Then had play with the cats in the garden before coming indoors to prep dinner (home made minestrone soup with shop bought ciabatta).
Harry, you are being naughty again!
No ONJ as the opening theme tune? Surprised!

Or you can try and procure dog poo or fox poo.
it works by sticking to their noses, which they hate, so they go away to ruin someone else's garden!
(Very odd "exercise" tunes, imho)
