Cold as ice.
"Ahh yes Mr Mayo, that hissing sound is your boiler dying". Great start to the week! Wondering now if Chris's boiler problems are infectious and I've passed on something hideous. My hands are shaking, the icicles forming on my nose and I'm going to read some Dickens very soon just to feel better.
Maybe the whole family should just decamp to our lovely warm studios and stay there. It's actually quite tempting. We'd be ever so quiet, I'm sure no one would notice.
Another book club day choice for you today and it's Simon Garfield's "Just My Type". We haven't done non-fiction before but this history of fonts is fascinating stuff. If you need convincing, try the sample chapters we have for you on this site. Many years ago, SImon wrote the book about Radio 1 'The Nation's Favourite' and he has always picked great topics for his writing. Helvetica versus Comic Sans and other favourites after 6.
And it's Coronation Street's 50th birthday this week so a perfect opportunity to do Corrie oldies. Your top choices below please!
Have a warm and centrally heated Monday (can I come round to yours?) and see you after 5.

They are here every day, regardless of the weather, graft really hard, and the finish of the bits thay have completed is second to none. And they were comparatively cheap. In fact , although they were not the cheapest, they were about 40% cheaper than the most expensive. We had to wait for a good while for them to be free, though. Not surprised.

At 13:51 6th Dec 2010, Deebee wrote:#63 For Mo (and anyone else who's interested), we had a fantastic time at Strictly! Although we very nearly didn't get in - we were 3rd and 4th on the standby list, and they ended up letting 25 in. Whew! It was a great evening, and interesting to see how they put the show together. For example the Manic Street Preachers (who were brilliant - I am now converted!) were the very first act we saw, and they didn't appear on TV till the Sunday show. Also, they had to do their song twice, as the sound level wasn't right first time. Then they filmed the professional dancers doing their movie tribute, which we also saw twice, then Brucie came out and chatted with the audience, sang a song and pulled a woman out from the front row to do a dance with. And then we got to the live Saturday bit.
We had fairly good seats, on the balcony to the right of the band so we had a good view of most of the floor and the judges. I watched it last night, and the camera did pan out to where we were quite a few times, but the lights were down so you couldn't actually see us.
Highlights included - Matt Baker's backwards somersault off the judges table, Anton and Erin's waltz, the two professional dances - although actually the whole show was excellent. Conclusion of the evening - radio shows are a lot more civilized (we had to stand out in the cold for over an hour - we were freezing by the time we got inside!)

May I suggest something else? It's a DVD - not new - 2002 - but Mr. BP bought it for me last Christmas. We watched it then and also last night. It's "Lesley Garrett at Christmas" and is herself solo but also with guests - Sibongile Khumalo, Jose Cura, Guy Barker, The Northern Spirit Singers - she does an amazing version of "On Holy Ground" with them.
She looks amazing. Her eyes twinkle so when she's singing. You can see her enjoyment.
The best bits are with Guy Barker including "Baby It's Cold Outside" where he plays the man's part on his trumpet!
Thought I'd share.

TWO Menshes tonight and both with proper name checks! Thank you Simon.
#74 Deebee Thanks for your report on Strictly. You enjoyed yourself.
People seemed to have missed PoS mensh.
I'm signing off now. The telly is good tonight starting with MIRANDA. So I only have about an hour to play (Christmas Music) before cooking supper. And it isn't Cordon Bleu - it's Boil-in-the-bag Cod in Parsley Sauce with Tinned Pots & Tinned VEG!
Nightnight. God Bless. Please God be here tomorrow.
Love
BP
