Stevenson surprsied many when she reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 1999 - the first season as a professional.

She became first woman qualifier to reach the semi-final stage and joined Chris Evert and Anna Kournikova as the first woman to reach that stage on their debut.

The American was as high as 46 in 1999 but then dipped to 90 before slowly rising again to find herself among the elite of the tennis world.

First round exits in this season's Australian and French Open's have not helped her status, but she did reach the final of a WTA event in Memphis.
