| ![]() 9 Amelie Mauresmo
Mauresmo has not fulfilled her potential since bursting into the world elite when reaching the final of the Australian Open in 1999. She claims that grass is her favourite surface and her big serving and heavy-hitting game would appear to be suited to Wimbledon but she has never performed well here. Perhaps her lack of success is linked to her fragile temperament which has earned her a "choker" tag. The Frenchwoman has been in mixed form in 2002, winning her seventh Tour title in Dubai where she overcame compatriot Sandrine Testud in the final. But she followed that by making the earliest exit ever of a defending champion when she lost to Anne Kremer at Amelia Island. More recently, she reached the semi-finals of the German Open but had to withdraw with a neck injury, before going down to unheralded Paola Suarez in the fourth round of the French Open. |
