| ![]() 1 Venus Williams
Williams is aiming for a hat-trick of wins, having beaten Lindsay Davenport and Justine Henin in the finals of 2000 and 2001 respectively. A first appearance in the final of the French Open this season will have further boosted the world number one, and the fact that she lost to sister Serena will have tempered the disappointment of defeat. En route at last year's Wimbledon, she came up with the fastest serve of the season, which registered 125mph on the speedometer. Her awesome power is the main feature of her game and in the past two seasons few have been able to cope with her thundering shots. The only real ray of hope for her opponents is that she is prone to the odd lapse in concentration, keeping the statisticians on their toes with a sudden glut of unforced errors. |
