| ![]() 17 Patty Schnyder
The Swiss player has doggedly stuck around the elite of the women's tennis world. She became a top 10 player in 1999 but then slipped down the rankings before a recent renaissance. She has won seven tour titles, and tasted victory in Pattaya last year. Schnyder won a doubles title this year with Magdalena Maleeva, and made it to the fourth round at the French Open before going out to Jennifer Capriati. This year she also defeated Capriati, Serena Williams, and Amelie Mauresmo en route to the Charleston final before falling to 1997 Roland Garros winner Iva Majoli. |
