The Italian has peaked late in her career, climbing the rankings dramatically in 2001, rising from 63rd to a then career-high of 14th - and picking up her first Tour title. She has maintained her ranking with some solid but unspectacular results. She reached the third round in the Australian Open, and the semi-finals in Tokyo and quarter-finals in Paris, Antwerp and Amelia Island. Seeded for the first time here last year, she reached the third round, her best result to date. To see her go much further than that, however, would be a big surprise. |
