Born to Army parents, Bill started life in London in 1938 but soon left for Asia. He grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong. When Bill returned to the UK, he was accepted into Sandhurst. After spending time at the Royal Signals, he passed his Cambridge entrance exam and studied Engineering and then Electronic Sciences at Downing College, Cambridge.
After leaving university, Bill had a long and successful army career, with a few spells at the Ministry of Defence, Bill rose through the ranks right up to Colonel.
A keen golfer, Bill currently holds the position of President of the County Golf Union. In the past he has held the roles of Captain, Director and Chairman of his current golf club. He’s also done extensive charity work – at local charity Julia’s House and was Chairman of the board for Age Concern for seven years. He’s best friends with fellow golf enthusiast John.
