John

Born in Liverpool during the blitz, John spent his early years in and around Lancashire. He had two sons and a daughter with his first wife, but in 1976 John decided to head to the big smoke to work in the security business. John rose to Director of Operations for a private security firm and was awarded Freeman of England to services for the crown for his security duties.

John loves all things showbiz. He takes after, and has a deep affection for, the comedians of yesteryear: he’s friends with Ken Dodd and considers Tommy Cooper to be his “first friend in showbiz”. But his main claim to fame is being Sweep, in the Sooty and Sweep show. He worked his way up to Company Stage Manager on the Sooty Show with Matthew Corbit, where his wife Connie worked as a presenter on the show. John retired from the Sooty Show in the mid-90s and started novel writing. He then turned his hand to stand up and began gigging all over the country.

Six years ago, John lost his wife Connie after a long battle with dementia. John has had a few encounters with new ladies but has found that they are looking for commitment which he is not sure he’s prepared to give. For him to settle down with someone again, they’d have to be really special, and not just someone who can bake him a Victoria sponge.
