Filmmaker Mohnish explains more about his film That Man With The Megaphone - a profile of Charlie Veitch.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

As a result of ignorance, lack of knowledge or engagement with one another, certain aspects of life tend not to be spoken about. These are very often categorised, judged and misunderstood by many individuals. I chose this subject because it brings the idea of ‘questioning’ into view, hopefully inspiring those who never thought differently to do so.

What motivated you to make this film?

I could very much relate to a lot of what Charlie talks about in his YouTube videos, particularly the spiritual and philosophical ideas he expresses. I was fascinated, drawn in by his humorous character and felt that I had personally benefited from watching him. I understood that he was (like me) just one man trying to inspire others. This is where the motivation came from, the opportunity to expose Charlie but to also inspire and represent a different way of thinking.

What equipment did you use to shoot the film?

Canon 5d mark II, Canon 7d, Rode Mic and a Tascam Sound Recorder.

Tell us about post-production, what software did you use, did you grade the film or mix the sound? Did you self-edit or did you use an editor?

This was self-edited using Final Cut Pro. I also graded and mixed the sound for the film. I had over 3 hours of interview footage, so it took many hours of watching and listening before the structure of the narrative finally came together.

Who/what inspires you?

Meditating, nature, music, friends and family, travelling. Witnessing great acts of kindness, books by Paulo Coelho, The Law Of Attraction, quotes by Mahatma Gandhi and Buddha. TED talks, filmmakers Michael Moore and Nick Broomfield, films such as Waking Life, Thrive and Samsara. In the least arrogant way possible, I inspire myself a lot of the time.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m very open for things to change but at the moment I would like to gain experience working within a film or TV company, allowing me to build my knowledge and a solid foundation for the future. Aside from this, I plan to save up for my own equipment and continue projects in my spare time. Travelling is something that I love so eventually a position where I am able to see more of the world whilst making films would be a dream.

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

Mostly about my strengths and weaknesses as a filmmaker and how my interests and principles are reflected through my creative work. Personally I have learned that with the ability to adapt to change comes wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
