Scott Mills: Katy Perry is due a turn playing Innuendo Bingo

2016 has been one of the messiest years ever in Scott Mills' Radio 1 studio, with Chris Stark getting soaked more times than ever before in games of Innuendo Bingo.
Add to that The Apprentice elevator interviews, Deborah Meaden from Dragons Den taking phone pitches from listeners and studio guests like the actualBritney Spears, it's been a busy year for Scott and Chris.
Here's their highlights from a very busy 2016 and yes, it includes Honey G.
What was your personal highlight from 2016?

Scott: When we did the alternative football commentary on the BBC Red Button was probably our highlight of the year. We were in Paris for the Euros and we did two matches. We just did silly commentary for it but people seemed to really like it.
Chris: It was probably the highlight of my life. It was mad that they let us do the semi-final - that was crazy enough - then, because of the success of it, we got invited to go and do the final.
Scott: It almost felt like we were working for BBC Sport. It was so good.
Who has been the most fun to get in for Innuendo Bingo this year?
Chris: That's hard. You forget how many you do. The game has got to such a level now that so many famous people are playing it and ask to come on and play it. We never had anyone famous involved and all of a sudden it's huge.
Scott: Judge Rinder was quite funny because he hated it so much. We'd never had someone where I thought they were going to walk out but he really wasn't keen. The guys from Pointless were great too.
Scott: Chris Mears from the Olympics was a good one. He was just in his pants.
What was Honey G really like?
Scott: I read something from one of the other X Factor contestants that if you touch her sunglasses she actually screams. I touched them and she didn't. I gave her glasses a good wipe because I was sick of seeing smudges on them all the time. I just wanted to meet her because I was just intrigued about what's going on there. I'm still none the wiser.
Chris: We met her quite early when there was just this phenomenon around her and largely it was just positive with Honey G. I think people liked supporting this underdog. It was different and strange but people really like it.
Scott: I still think she's for real. She actually believes it.
Why do you love working with Deborah Meaden and what does she like about listeners’ pitches?

Deborah Meaden does another Instant Dragons' Den!
Will listener Josh convince Deborah Meaden to invest in his inflatable lilo enhancement?
Scott: The thing about Dragons Den is you can come across as quite scary and unapproachable and even though she plays that character very well she's actually very nice. I think she quite likes being part of something fun and she's obviously got a sense of humour.
Chris: I think she genuinely likes hearing people's ideas and she likes us. We've always had a funny relationship with her where we're like little brothers. She looks out for us and will message us randomly on Twitter. It's all done with love.
How did The Apprentice contestants react when they (very often) didn't make it up to the studio for an interview after the elevator pitch?

Elevator Appentice Pitch : Fake Tan
The first fired Apprentice candidate delivers their elevator pitch to Scott and Chris.
Chris: It's horrible. Scott can send them down in quite an abrupt way and I’m left to deal with them face to face. I'm left with small talk. A lot of the thing with The Apprentice is that it's quite a big pantomime every year and we're only playing along with that. We love them really and I’m always very nice to them.
Scott: It's all done with humour.
Chris: It's probably more fun for them than doing a straight up interview and it gets them to show off their personality a bit more.
What did other BBC employees make of the elevator pitches happening in the office lifts?
Chris: They either avoid the lift, they see us with microphones and avoid the lift or often they come in to see what's going on and then get really weirded out because they can't tell.
Who would be your dream guest for Innuendo Bingo?
Scott: Theresa May. We could talk about her leather trousers.
Chris: Who I think would play it and do a really good job and be massively popular if we could get her, would be Katy Perry.
Scott: She's coming back with some new stuff; she's had to do some pretty out-there things for us in the past so she's due her turn.
