Eight signs you can't live without your phone

Can you live without your phone? That's what Radio 1's Dev asked a class of sixth form students in his new documentary for BBC iPlayer.

It's a scary thought, but how do you know if you've got a problem with your phone in the first place?

Here's eight surefire signs to help you identify a problem. If you're reading this on your phone, lets call it nine.

You check your phone before anything else in the morning

The first thing on Greg James' mind in the morning is whether he has missed any essential tweets overnight, not his basic bodily functions.

He's not sure this is quite right.

"I love being on social media and I love creating stuff, but I don't want it to be the first thing I do in the morning and at the moment, it is," he tells Radio 1.

"Checking Twitter before I have a wee is bad."

Kendall and Kylie selfies are more important than calls from your actual family

Who is this 'mum' person who keeps calling?

You get regularly stuck in a late night scroll-hole

It's 2am in the morning and all you're doing is bouncing between apps. You're not alone. Zara Larsson does it too.

"I'm just scrolling on Instagram, then I scroll on Twitter, scroll on Facebook and then I do it all over again," she tells Radio 1.

"I just scroll. I just look at memes. That's basically all I do."

A flat battery is your worst fear. Literally

Because if there's one thing worse than silence, it's when your own thoughts pipe up.

Updates are a no-no because your phone is packed with videos you've filmed at gigs

It's annoying for everyone, even the people who are filming it. Radio 1's Clara Amfo has held her hands up on this one.

"I'm as guilty as the next person of being at a gig and having my phone out but I don't video the whole thing," she tells Radio 1.

"I'll film the verse and a chorus but then i'll put my phone away. I'm never one of those people who are filming constantly. It does my nut in."

Every app on your phone is open. Every one

Is this grinding down the battery or is it not? We're just not sure. Better scroll through them all and see if there's anything worth looking at.

And yes, of course we only look at BBC apps. Honest.

You need a PA to deal with your Whatsapp backlog

You find hours to spend on Instagram but there's no time in the day to get back to actual people who want to actually talk to you.

Zara Larsson (again), is dreadful for this.

"I think I have 10,000 emails I haven't been reading, I've got way too many texts I haven't replied to," she tells Radio 1.

You catch all your best Pokemon from the comfort of your own bed

At least it's not a Mr Mime. They seem like they'd be morning people and morning people are the absolute worst.

Dev's documentary, Can You Live Without Your Phone, will be available to watch on iPlayer from 4pm on Friday 9 December 2016
