James Arthur: "I want to find Ariana Grande under my Christmas tree"

James Arthur is 2016’s comeback kid. He bounced back from the pop wilderness with a No.1 single and album and put the controversy which led to him losing his first record deal firmly in the past.

So he’s got a lot to celebrate this Christmas and he’s planning to spend it with his family – although he’s secretly hoping there will be an Ariana Grande-shaped present under the tree when it comes to the 25th…

I usually stay at my mum's house with my sisters. We get up and open presents - we're quite late risers actually. My mum stresses out for about four hours, then we have an argument at the dinner table. Then we watch Top Of The Pops and that kind of stuff and then I go to my dad's house and get drunk in the night usually, with the other side of my family.

Usually over something daft like, "why is there no stuffing" or "Mum, why have you made the gravy so thin?" I want the gravy stodgy in my Yorkshire pudding.

Say You Won't Let Go

I like the one where they are trying to prove that Santa Claus is real. Miracle on 34th Street. They go to court and everything to try and prove it. I love it - even if I couldn't remember its name.

I get a kick out of doing something for other people. I'd love to take a chunk out of my mum or dad's mortgage or something like that. That would be pretty cool.

I've got everything I want - although I'd quite like a new car. My car's a bit small at the moment, so maybe that.

I think Christmas songs are awesome. It's that one time of year people seem to be more united and together and that music is a theme of all that. That's why I like it.

I would actually, I think it would be quite fun. Hopefully people wouldn't see it as too cheesy because I'd probably do some dark twisted thing with it.

Hurt

It would have to be someone pretty wouldn't it, someone good looking. Ariana Grande. I'll take Ariana. Her voice is spectacular, she's incredible. Her voice just drives me crazy.

I don't want to be cheesy but I never really get upset about a Christmas present. Say if you get a really nice shirt and it doesn't fit, that's a headache. I never take stuff back to the shops. I find it too stressful.
