Yvette Girvan, Miss Nottingham 2005 contestant
Yvette loves making people feel good

Yvette Girvan, Miss Nottingham 2005 finalist

Interview with Katie Hall
Yvette, 23, is a staff nurse from Nottingham.

About Katie Hall

I'm a mild punk-rocker who has been enjoying the delights of Nottingham over the past three years in the ways that students generally do. My first love was Zappa the cat, named after his highness Frank. My second is my dad's vinyl collection.

Yvette has already fulfilled her childhood ambition of becoming a nurse and helping others, but winning Miss Nottingham might enable her to reach more people.

For Yvette entering Miss Nottingham is more about fun than a life-changing decision. "I've never done any modelling before but my friends said I should go for it, so I did. I've entered the competition before I didn't come anywhere. It was great fun so I thought I'd give it another go!"

The chance to be the face of Nottingham is an added bonus. "If I won I'd be proud, I've lived here all my life and worked here for half of it so I'd be very proud to be representing Nottingham. I'd promote Nottingham for what a good city it is, and I'd also carry on with charity work and in particular help out my hospital."

"My best moment in life so far was getting into university, I'd worked hard at school and college and making it into the University of Nottingham was brilliant."

Her perfect day out in Nottingham? "It'd have to be shopping, as Nottingham has been voted one of Britain's best shopping places. In the evening I'd be spoilt for choice with all the bars, restaurants and clubs that are all really good. I've got lots of friends from other parts of the UK who come here just to go out because it's got such a good nightlife."

Some typical beauty contest questions…

Greatest talent? Being a nurse, I always wanted to become one. My talent is making people feel good about themselves, listening and helping them out.

10 years from now… I'll be continuing in my career as a nurse and hopefully be doing very well; I'll still be helping people out. And I'll definitely be in Nottingham still because I love Nottingham; I was born and raised here.

If I could change one thing about the world… I'm not going to say World Peace! I'd just like everyone to strive to be happy in whatever they do.
