Jayne Louise Slater, Miss Nottingham contestant
Jayne Louise already has two titles!

Jayne Louise Slater, Miss Nottingham 2005 finalist

Interview with Katie Hall
Jayne Louise, 23, is a balloon modeller from Rugby!

About Katie Hall

I'm a mild punk-rocker who has been enjoying the delights of Nottingham over the past three years in the ways that students generally do. My first love was Zappa the cat, named after his highness Frank. My second is my dad's vinyl collection.

Balloon modeller Jayne is an old hand at beauty titles as she currently holds the titles of Miss Commonwealth England and Miss Intercontinental Ireland, but she could always do with another one.

Although her home town is actually Rugby, 24 year old Jayne teaches during the holidays at Trent College and really appreciates her time in Nottingham: "I love the nightlife in Nottingham, you go out and it is fantastic and the transport is great… you don't know what you're missing until you get here. I like the market a lot too, I love getting some bargains! The people are also really friendly."

Jayne believes that winning titles such as Miss Nottingham provides a platform to show children that there are lots of varied things they can do with their lives: "If I won I would want to show people that you can do other things with your life. I'm a teaching assistant so I am around children a lot and I'm also an ambassador for the Girl Guides, so I show the youngsters that you can aim to do lots of things alongside being cool. I love going out into the community and getting involved, I like to help show young people that there's more to life than hanging out on street corners."

The teaching assistant is enjoying the opportunities that have presented themselves to her from beauty contests, "I've had quite a bit of media attention, I was a VIP guest on Hell's Kitchen because of Miss Intercontinental Ireland, and James Hewitt came and sat at our table!" The same competition is also sending her to China in a couple of weeks to represent her grandmother's country. But the best moment of her life was being invited to Lapland by the Wish Upon a Star charity to help terminally ill children enjoy what would probably be their last holiday, "seeing their faces when they saw Father Christmas was priceless, and of course I got to sit on his lap too!"

Some typical beauty contest questions...

10 years from now… I want to be teaching in a specialised sports academy as sport is my passion, I am a national athlete.

If I could change one thing about the world… I would change people's attitudes towards each other, mainly those people who read the press and decide that all immigrants are illegal and have a bad attitude towards anyone who doesn't fit their idea of the norm.
