Louise Simpson, Miss Nottingham 2005 contestant
Louise loves her dancing!

Louise Simpson, Miss Nottingham 2005 finalist

Interview with Katie Hall
Louise Simpson, 20, is a fitness instructor and dancer from Nottingham.

About Katie Hall

I'm a mild punk-rocker who has been enjoying the delights of Nottingham over the past three years in the ways that students generally do. My first love was Zappa the cat, named after his highness Frank. My second is my dad's vinyl collection.

Dancer Louise is having a second go in her quest to become Miss Nottingham, although hopes it won't involve long division.

"I actually took part before, when I was 17, but I didn't get anywhere. I've been doing modelling since and when the opportunity to take part again came up I jumped at the chance. I love Nottingham and I've lived here all my life. Representing the place would be great."

Louise thinks the best thing about winning would be the power: "I'd bribe people with it… 'I'm Miss Nottingham, do this for me!'" but also sees it as a chance to do some good for the city.

"I'd be gobsmacked if I won, but I'd tell everybody! I'd do stuff for Nottingham, I'd like to get involved with events in the city and do lots of charity work."

But what is it that she likes about her city? "Ooh, lots of things. The people are nice, the nightlife is good, it's historical… there are lots of things about it. There's Robin Hood, the Castle. The people are fun and friendly, and while lots of people talk about the gun crime issue, that happens everywhere, not just in Nottingham."

Her perfect day in Nottingham would involve "clothes shopping at the Vicky Centre and Broadmarsh. In the evening I'd go for a nice meal and to the bars in Hockley and the Lace Market… having a laugh with the girls on a girls' night out."

Some typical beauty pageant questions…

Greatest talent? Dancing, I'm no good at maths but I'm great at dancing. I've got a big head about my dancing actually!

10 years from now… I'd like to be happy in a career earning a good salary. I want to keep on modelling but also I love my dancing so I'd combine the two.

If I could change one thing about the world… Ha, "World Peace, I wanna save the world man!" I'd do all those things… stop war, get rid of AIDS, poverty… but also maybe make the world more like Nottingham!
